It's not just the response time. I'm wary if they can even make these modern "torque converters" have the same shifting feel as a DSG/PDK gearbox.

DSG actually feels like a manual gearbox because it really is one with clutch activation via hydraulics.

Agh! OK now I get it. It's all good.

I've also thought that you should be able to pull both paddles (or some sort of similar action), to put the car in neutral, then when you release them it goes back into gear.

I drove my friend's GT3 and when you come up to a light you pull both paddles to go into neutral?

Unfortunately the 86 doesn't do that.

It's like pressing the clutch on a MT, it opens both clutches, release just like releasing a clutch. I thought the paddles were ok while driving fast, and my friend tracks his and has got pretty good with the paddles, but in traffic they are a nightmare and you resort to just putting it in full auto mode.

Yea but there's no need to put it into neutral at a stop with a torque converter auto, simply hold the brakes to prevent it from creeping.

The reason why the VAG DSG doesn't have this dual pull feature is because prior to the initial launch with the Mk.1 Audi TT and Mk.4 Golf R32, they had a dealer meeting and it was voted that the DSG should be made to mimic the characteristics of a conventional automatic with PRND(+/-) and auto creep forward (just make sure you don't let it auto creep forward on an incline otherwise will burn out the clutch packs). This would be an easier sale than let's say how the Toyota MR-S SMT was setup, with an unconventional gate pattern where it would do a rollback readily.

I can see a motorsport car having this dual paddle pull feature being much more ideal on the track than using it in everyday traffic. If the car has electronic parking brake then it should also have hill hold assist with auto disengagement of the parking brake when giving it gas.

1. Lack of control in event of an actual emergency
2. No direct mechanical connection for (see above)
3. Replacing one of the simplest vehicle mechanical systems with something needlessly complex.
4. Impossible to initiate a drift with electronic parking brake
5. Reason given for replacing a center console mounted hand brake is usually "free up space for cup holders". EVEN for a sports car.

I don't know about now but back in the day a lot of shops hated electronic parking brakes with a passion, since it auto engages once the automatic shifter is put into park.

When you need to release the rear brakes to do a brake job on the lifter, you will need a laptop with an expensive cable to disengage it.

Only because I've never had one, what happens with an electronic emergency brake in a full power outage on your vehicle? I assume it doesn't work but wanted to verify.

I assume the parking brake will just be at its last position prior to the power outage.
