I went back and took a look at my email's to Autoharnesshouse about the issue I was having with the radio reception. You'll need to refer to this post that has a diagram of the 2016 FR-S head unit stock connections:
https://www.ft86club.com/forums/show...ht=2016+wiring

On the stock 10 pin connector, pin 9 is the amp for the antenna. If you look at the Autoharnesshouse connector, pin 9 is not connected to anything, so the amp is not receiving power.

There was a connector provided in their harness that wasn't being used at all. I pulled I believe a red wire from that a connector, cut it and then added in to pin 9 of their 10 pin connector. I then spliced this wire to the blue "amp trigger" wire on the Pioneer connector. Attached is a picture of that.

I'm pretty sure this was the process used for the fix. Unfortunately, I didn't take photos of the end result. If you want me to pull the radio and take photos of the harness and splice to confirm, let me know.

Really appreciate you taking the time to look at this! I reached out to AutoHarnessHouse this morning and they have not yet responded.

It appears my AutoHarnessHouse kit may be slightly different than yours for some reason. Not sure why because we have the same model year car and I ordered the kit for the 2016. On my AutoHarnessHouse 10 pin connector, it appears there is a blue wire in pin 9 that loops back in to pin 8. On the antenna adapter, there is no blue "amp trigger" wire at all.

I an wondering if they sent me the wrong harness/antenna adapter?

Very interesting. If that is the same harness, it does look like they changed it. I got mine back in 2019. When you hooked up the head unit, did everything else work correctly except for the antenna strength? According to their technical support person who got back to me, pin 9 needs 12 volts to power the antenna amp. Their loop back might not be providing any power.

Yeah, everything else is working perfectly. I did have to cut the pink wire as directed by this thread to resolve the muting Carplay audio while moving.

I swear, the speakers sound quality is really noticeably better. Very happy with this head unit. Just need to get the radio reception problem sorted.

If your antenna adapter harness does NOT look like this one,

Name: 0FC1EB34-54BD-4CE3-93FA-0054D4FAA292.jpeg
Views: 808
Size: 34.6 KB

and it is missing the blue wire, then they need to send you the correct antenna adapter harness, because that blue wire in the picture here needs to be powered with +12 volts to power the antenna for proper radio reception.

How long did it take them to get back to you? Going on 2 days now with no response from them.

Their technical support got back to me the next day when I emailed them. The address I used to contact them was inquiry@autoharnesshouse.com.

AutoHarnessHouse got back to me today. They are sending me a different direct wire adapter and also a new AM/FM adapter. Hopefully this gets the problem sorted out.

I got the new direct wire and AM/FM adapters today. AutoHarnessHouse was nice enough to make the connection to the blue amp trigger wire on the AM/FM adapter before sending it out.

I connected everything back together and the AM/FM reception is working fine now. I am very impressed with this receiver. I will post some pics soon when I have time.

USB Storage Device - Capacity Limit?

I play FLAC audio files from a Samsung USB 3 thumb drive.
My 32 Gig drive is full and I just bought some more music.
How large a thumb drive does the AVH-ZL5150BT support?
How large and what brand of drive is anyone using?

Thanks!

I'm currently using a SanDisk 128GB Ultra Fit USB 3.1 flash drive with the head unit. You will need to format it for FAT32 using special software for it to work correctly. Here is a link to an article about that:

Yea, that's pretty common step to have to take. i have a 256GB mini-SD in the Pioneer AVIC-8200NEX in my Suburban that I did that with (reformatted as FAT32). It's worked flawlessly for 5 years.

Newb questions (and pardon my ignorance), so I'm pretty set on getting this head unit and harness. I know where I want to mount the mic and the usb port.

1) Is the usb port and wire long enough to go to cup holder area something additional I need to purchase?

2) Since I have a 2013, which came with no backup camera from the factory, is there one readily available or one you guys would recommend?

I can answer one of your questions. I replaced the cigarette lighter port in the armrest console with this extension cable that has both USB and 3.5mm auxiliary plugs:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VAIEAUM

It has a 3 foot cable, which was enough to reach to the back of the Pioneer AVH-ZL5150 head unit. This is where I have my USB flashdrive plugged in.
