What motor oil to use on a jacksonracing supercharged brz? - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

Hey guys,

Im pretty much new to this forum but I've been on it for quite a while before I made an account. Needless to say, this is my first post.
I currently running the Jackson Racing c38 supercharger on my brz, bigger injectors, pump, flexfuel etc.

I was wondering what type of motor oil I should use for oil changes.
Some people say, stick to 0w20 while others are telling me to get motul 5w30.
I need a tiebreaker xD btw, i live in central california wheres its normally 100+ degrees.

please help =(

Well, your hear a bunch of options.
I would hit up Jackson Racing customer service, and ask them what they would recommend.
I'm pretty sure that's the best way to go. Other wise everyone and their mother will tell you to put X brand and X weight.

I would stick to the factory oil spec till you hear from them.

Also FYI Motul isn't all that. Just a different oil brand. Nike vs. Reebok. Which fanboy base do you want to be in?
I'm a Mobil 1 fanboy, reason: Walmart cheap, find it anywhere 24/7 7 days a week. Even in the middle of bumfuck vile.
Other brands like Motul. Special order, wait a few days a bit pricey. For same exact performance.

I'd recommend 0w20 Mobile 1.

Your oil will have high temperatures with a supercharger. You will need at least a 5w30 oil. It will be slightly thicker in cold temperatures and provide the necessary protection in high temperatures. Using a 0w20 oil even with an oil cooler is like submitting suicide.

Motul is also a good choice

. It is used by STi for many years.

I have the c30, 700cc injectors, pump, flex fuel, pretty much your same setup. Also live in central california. I run 0w20. but that's because i'm not tracking/autocrossing. The most I do is spirited driving, occasional redline pulls, but that's about it. Usually just out-and-about driving. you don't need a heavier oil if this is all you do. if you plan autocrossing or tracking, run a thicker oil.

edit: central coast for me... i totally glazed over "100+ degrees". I don't have temps that high where I live haha.

I've been boosted for over 30k miles and I've done nothing but Eneos 0w20

Nothing about your motor has changed other than the power output. Oil galleys/clearances/bearings/etc was all designed for 0-20. Use a quality synthetic 0-20.

If your oil temps are staying within range there is absolutely no reason to switch to a heavier oil.

Increasing the power output alone is a good reason to switch to a heavier oil, IMO. Oil temps alone do not tell you anything about your film strength and whether or not the HTHS and kinematic viscosity are sufficient for bearing protection in a particular application.

I hear a lot of talk about this engine being "designed for 0W-20" although Subaru Japan allows thick Euro 0W-30 and 5W-40 in a stock BRZ.
