I have not noticed any chirping now for at least 2 months. Not sure if it is the cold weather or what, but this is the original pump that was previously chirping.

They have started shipping the latest pump and installing them but at a very slow rate. I'll update what I know soon as I hear something. I have to get it done on my own car as well.

The point is the D4-S injection system requires 2 pumps, one is electric, the other "cricket" is runs off a camshaft lobe. I don't think it could've been designed into the tank.

As an update, it took 4 months and less than 1000 miles for the crickets to come back now.

The extra layer of foam insulation my fuel pump has doesn't completely eliminate them, but has changed the behavior of the crickets. They show up when I get low on fuel and its colder outside. When its warm outside, they aren't noticeable. Improvement? Absolutely. They're just not completely gone like we'd all want. Sometimes they're extremely muffled from the foam as well in the cold.

Mazda Skyactiv also has crickets. It's just a part of DI, apparently - as others have noted.

I've had crickets on the Mk5 Golf GTI too with the 2.0T Direct Injection engine. It just seems more noticeable with the BRZ.

I put in ethanol free Shell V-Power 91 and I don't get crickets when the engine is cold, but the crickets get noticeable after a short drive and only during idle. The Golf was totally opposite where the crickets come up on cold starts only.

That particular quote from that thread is referring to an FR-S, actually.

Although from what I've seen the MDX and RLX using the new DI V6 do have crickets.

When you guys say crickets, do you mean the clicking normal to a DI or the high pitched chirp that the FR-S has?

I have driven plenty of DI cars, all had the loud tick/click, only the FR-S/BRZ has the high pitched chirp.
