Gday from OZ

A ZN-6 from OZ.
You have heard the proverbial "barn find"
How about this for a discovery, purely by coincidence when I called a friend who was a country Toyota technician until illness three years back.
He sold be (and forever regretted) a 1974 CORONA RT104GT way back 40 years ago.
So I called him to ask about all this BRZ/GT6/ debate and what was a good buy?
My concern being that out of 15000 sold in Australia over 580 for sale and that they seemed to be going down the same road (no pun) as Suzuki Swift GTI, Nissan GTYR and Toyota GT4s, fast and furious to the end and no resale value. And about ten in wreckers yards. So what were the traps for young players?
Lowest price advertised was $8500 highest $29000??
Many many mods done some good some not so smart.

Well as they say he put his money where his mouth usually was and produced this gem from out of a back yard shed.

$20,000 plus $1000 on road a bit high for the year but low due to its unique nature one girl owner who drove it 750 km per year too and from work.
I doubt its been over 5000 revs in its life.
2012 July delivered ZN6 GT with 4,400 KM (not a misprint) under 5000 KM or 3000 miles.
So new old stock even the first service at 15000 KM or three years was not yet done.
So biting the bullet bought it sights unseen and have been detailing it ever since.
It was neglected and needs TLC.
So oils and service on the cards.
pics coming soon.

The good, the bad and the ugly.

A week is a long time to learn about new car so here is the time line so far.
New air filter and oil filter.
Drained diff oil and put in Nulon with friction modifiers for the LSD.
Cleaned the gunk off the magnetic drain plug.
Drained gearbox oil and replaced with Penrite cleaned magnetic plug of particles.
Dropped sump of oil like black water and did a lot of reading about running in, low viscosity oil, the 0w20 debate and saw some good engineering on utube.
Put in five litres of 0w30 Penrite.
Will flush it out at 5000 k along with more run in particles, moisture and buildup.
Program the 15000 k Toyota service at six years 5000 km.
Swapped brake and clutch fluids over.
Bought in dash mat and stuck it in, we have high UV here dashes always crack.
Contemplating the gts brake upgrade which would be easy using the GT pots, GTS caliper brackets and 295 mm disc rotor.
Not going to pay $800 for wreckers caliper mounting brackets.
Maybe a later dash unit GPS to keep me legal.
Removed the acoustic toe trembler stuck the cigar plug in the tube nice and quiet now wife is happy.
New wiper blades.
Clean all the blueish build up of pvc film off windscreen insides.
Might swap over my 16x8 JDM enkei mags off my GT4 but they are white and my ride is blue.
Removed skid pans and cleaned out all the accumulated stones sticks straw and mouse poo.
It had been kept in a barn true story amongst the hay,
