Yep, a RWD Veloster is a one-off engineering experiment, not ever intended for production.

Exactly. Mfgs typically will show a concept to see how the public reacts, and then try to predict what sales will look like. It's quite normal for mgs try to make something that approximates their concept cars from a current platform in a configuration that involves less risk to market.

Who knows. They're making cash hand over fist these days like the Japanese did in the 80's. With that much cash, they could afford to be experimental where other makers can't.

But WHY oh WHY was it turned into something completely different? I just don't get that one... I mean look at this:

The Genesis Poupe is the, "enthusiast" car for people who know nothing about cars.

Did you read more than the first post there? Many people love them and are every bit as knowledgeable as the people here. In fact many are more knowledgeable than some here.
Hell, if you read half the threads here you would think that most owners hate the Twins as well.

I did. Those are the people who know nothing about cars, I touched on earlier.
This platform has a very clear divide of those that know, and those that do not.

Oh and it handles terribly.

-poor build quality
-lack of thorough testing
-comes with horrible tires
-basically paying $10k more for an Elantra with RWD
-loads of cheap one time use plastic bits
-took good engine designs and cheapened them to almost failure
-noisy (in a bad way)
-Premium sound system sounds worse than basic sound system
-Annoying Nav
- really.. nothing Premium about it..

Change "Elantra" to "Impreza" and that list sounds exactly like the typical gripes I've read over and over about the Twins. And based on the number of responses in that thread where people refute OP's claim, just as unrealistic/uninformed as the Twins' list.

And this is all based on????

-Poor Build Quality
Where did you get that from? Absolutely no issues with mine. Has over 33K miles and not one rattle or noise. My BRZ with 10k miles, that car rattled and made more noises than any car I have ever owned. I got scared every time I drove of RR that a piece would fall off. And loved those crickets!

-Horrible Tires
Hum, the stock tires on the twins ain't much to brag about. In fact I replaced them with a staggered Hankook setup. Hankook tires are also on my Genesis, no complaints and highly rated tires.

-basically paying $10k more for an Elantra with RWD
Really, Ah, no comparing the two.....

-loads of cheap one time use plastic bits
Have you actually sat in a Genesis? Yes it has hard plastic parts like most cars. But most of the materials are high grade, soft touch.

-noisy (in a bad way)
Hum, not mine. Only noise is that great sound from the V6

-Premium sound system sounds worse than basic sound system
Again, what is that based on?? The 360W Infinity sound system, well not the best I've heard is still pretty damn good. Way better then the stock BRZ system...which I had the OEM sub too.

-Annoying Nav
Care to expand on that? The nav does just what it is suppose to do. Again, no complaints.

- really.. nothing Premium about it..
Guess another Hyundai hater.

Hey I take offense to that. I know allot about cars and owned quite a bit over the years. From VW GTI's to Focus ST to Mercedes SLK. I did my research before moving into the Genesis and 100% happy with my decision.

I hear a lot complain about rattles on the FRS. I am starting to think I have a lemon or something because it doesn't rattle much at all. The switch box in the door panels did rattle when the music was loud but that was easy to fix. I have two other rattles that I haven't been able to identify. But these two rattles are super hard to hear. Nothing I would write off the car about. Every car I've owned in the past has has more rattles than my FRS.

Here are the cars I've owned listed in order of rattles:
1995 Integra GSR (mostly due to Konis and 500lbs/500lbs springs)
2003 G35 6MT Sedan (Hated this car for many reasons. Had so many rattles and strange sounds)
2000 Tiburon (cheap car)
2011 Suburban
2003 Sequoia
2002 IS300 5MT (The drivers side door seal creaked and there was one rattle around the passenger side speaker)
2013 FRS
