So to get fun acceleration out of this car the gas mileage suffers that bad?

Link? Just looked around on edmunds and couldnt find such a report. All I saw was their normal review saying it gets pretty good gas mileage. I havent at all been able to replicate such bad mpg, or even get below 25mpg (though I've seen some people report on the forums getting 22-24mpg).

After all the fun everyone has had at he OP's expense, I dare say I have seen the same thing. Even 50 miles after resetting the avg mileage, the avg mileage will drop down significantly under one hard acceleration. Then it comes back up significantly after a minute or so of normal driving. It's as if it's anticipating your fuel consumption habits rather purely calculating total miles/total gallons. Weird, I know, but the reading behaves differently than in avg mpg computers of other cars I've owned.

Usa gas is piss.. Put random shit in it to save money.. We suffer :/ with more money spent for lesser quality gas.. With that said i was getting avg 28.8

goto Edmunds, type FR-S in the search box, 3rd link should be "2013 FR-S Long Term Test", then click "new updates", last update should be 4/4/13 entitled "Fuel Economy Update January".

I'm guessing they filled up before and after and tested 100% track versus the driving to the track most of you guys do which alters the mileage upwards.

Thanks. The website wasnt being friendly to me when I was trying to use the search (kept coming up with blank screens and redirecting me to places I'd all ready been though I was clicking different links). Meh. I havent noticed it either way.

Alright, I see what you guys did there.. accelarator, gas peddle, ha ha.. jokes on me! lucky I take jokes well. I mean duh, I know that if you punch the peddle its gonna suck down gas faster than normal, ive also known this. When I drive normally, Ive seen 30-32 miles to the gallon, im pretty happy with that, since its better than my last car (a mazda 3 2.5). I even got a 121 miles on a quarter tank.. pretty dang impressive if I do say so myself.. dont ask me how I did that either.. havent been able to get that since. Just saying that even though its a 2.0L engine it sucks alot of gas for such a short period of accelaration. Thats all. Oh yeah, quality of gas has been kinda been something I've been meaning to talk about too. I have seen some really crappy mileages from it. Thats just driving normal too. Does anyone encounter this problem often and wonder what gas stations this seems to be pretty common with?

I don't remember where but someone did a test with a prius going all out on a racetrack with a m3 following it giving just enough throttle to keep up. The m3 got better mpg than the prius. Hypothetically if ur commute to work is straight out of ur driveway and 1 mile down the interstate, and u like to floor ur car up to about 70mph then cruise, a modern corvette and a frs wouldn't use all that different amounts of gas imho because the frs would be pinned for noticeably longer

your foot needs to go on a diet

im getting good mpg on mine.. i dont fill up my car full tank and shift 2/3k city.
merge freeway 4k and sometimes 5/6k when i want to get moving.. neutral saves gas too

darn gas is 4.29$ .... i miss the 90s

Imagine if you had VTEC or some other valve lift mechanism....

Instead of 4cyl power with 4cyl gas mileage, you mash the pedal down and you end up with more 4cyl power with V8 gas mileage.

If Edmunds testing was accurate, it resulted in V12 gas mileage! I wouldn't be racing so it wouldn't affect me, but I'm still surprised by how low they got.

unless im matting the pedal i have been averaging around 37 highway 28 cityish i dont pay attention to the digital reading i do the math my average has been around 30-33mpg

Here's my secret tip, so don't tell anyone else!

Try using half throttle and letting the revs run up through the power band.
It's a lot more than half power, sounds fantastic and seems to sip fuel compared with flooring it.
Change at about 6000rpm and it's straight back into the start of the power band for very quick progress through the gears.
I usually change at about 3000rpm in traffic but when I use the above method it feels like it could do it all day long and the car is being looked after.
