I've been eyeing on switching up my daily driver with a newer model AWD cars. Since Subaru has disappointed the enthusiasts with the new STi with the same old EJ motor, I've turned my attention toward the mentioned Golf R. Since it hasn't been released, I will hold off my final judgement, but on paper, it does look very promising.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of pocket rocket hatches. I owned a tuned MS3 for 4 years. When I shopping for my MS3, I cross-shopped it with GTi and MiniS. I modified my MS3 to the point where it was beating lightly modded EVO/STi in the drag race. But, no matter how you put it to sugarcoat it, a Fail Wheel Drive is a Fail Wheel Drive.

If you like it, alright. But don't get to so defensive about it.

You're the 1 being offensive about , I couldn't give 2 shits what wheels drive my car as long as I have steering feel and good handling (for my needs, which is a street car). A GTI with $1000 (stage 2) in it is just as fast in a straight line as an R. If you're just about straight line speed there's your value. And unless your legitimately drag racing from a dig I don't really see why AWD is so crucial in this argument

No, I don't give a monkey crap about the straightline performance. We are on 86 forum and we all own a type of 86, aren't we? I'm talking about the handling of these cars. Sure, it's pretty good, but once you start modding the car, it's not as rewarding as RWD/AWD.

And I'm fully aware of GTI upgrades. My other car is 2010 A4 Avant.

Fine. I've never driven an STI or Evo but I have driven a 363whp DSG GTI with suspension mods and I must say that was completely satisfying. I probably should dive into Japanese AWD, I'm not bashing them AT ALL, all I was saying is that there is some serious value in the GTI for the much cheaper price tag. Peace bro.

There will be almost an 80hp difference between the MK7 GTI and R. That's more than just "a little" imo. The power difference between the MK6 GTI and R wasn't as big (200hp vs. 256hp).

$35k is way too much money for a Golf IMHO, no matter how you tart it up. I'd rather get an old MkIV R32... better-looking, same concept, just as practical, way less money.

Or used 5-door STI-- again, practical and fast, but also better looking and with a real AWD system.

This country really needs the M135i

its called adaptation. 2 years ago, people were nice and friendly and helpful. but more and more people like you decided to buy this car and ruin what class was to be had. troll wars ensue and now we are where we are. I apologize for being dragged into it but when you start shit, I unfortunately feel the need to defend myself. whats done is done. lets just stick to the cars.

How much were those old mkiv r32s? Don't remember.

But yeah the previous R32s had some godly exhaust notes.
