The force is strong with this one (2015 STi)

It has been a few months since I have been out here. I can count the months left until I come back in one hand. I have been banking and my ca$h is fat. I have been reviewing the BRZ, reading all the reviews and youtube clips I can get my hand on. I have been reviewing the new 2015 STi and the force is strong with this one.

In my mind, I feel that the new STi is on par with the BRZ in handling and performance wise. I know it will lack that driver and car connection. But if I think in terms of performance per $, I think the STi is a great buy. FI in a BRZ will cost the same as a STi and I feel that if I did FI in the BRZ, I know I will lose the point of the BRZ. I do not want to lose that purpose. Still on the edge, I need to test drive one before I buy one.

Has anyone bought the new STi? Anyone driven it? Please give a detail comparison on the STi compare to the BRZ. Kinda far away to do it myself.

apples and oranges but everything i've read about the '15 sti is good.

btw, i own both an '04 sti and '13 brz so although not exactly the comparison you're asking for i feel qualified to tell you these cars couldn't be more different.... thus, why i own both.

Practicality does not matter to me as I have other cars that are more practical. I don't care about road noise and rattles and other crap that does not pertain to performance and handling. Those stuff does not bother me. Shit, crickets don't bother me. As long as it doesn't have a British female voice saying "Rocket Attack" I'm ok with it. Hell, I can sleep through rocket attacks and care less if one landed near me. After a few of them, it's like whatever.

They are two different beasts, but if your indifferent about the handling of AWD vs RWD then go with the STI. It's a great all around machine with OEM reliability and warranty.

The BRZ might out handle it, but your on your own if something breaks and no matter how reliable people say FI on the 86 is, the car hasn't been around long enough to know forsure.

Traded in my FR-S for a '15 STi Launch Edition. Two different beasts meant for two different things but the STi fills what gap the FR-S left for me. Also something to keep in mind: factory FI, engine has been around for over a decade now (cheap repairs) and the tuners have more experience with the EJ's.

You are going to need to test drive them both to really decide what you want. They are two very different cars from each other and magazine and online reviews are not going to really capture the differences.

The 2015 WRX/STI is a pretty big difference from even your 2012 so it is hard to compare to what you are even driving now.

Someone at work picked up a brand new WRB, with some OEM+ goodies. Beat me to the elevator by two seconds and couldn't make conversation.

Anyways, as always, test drive and make an opinion of it yourself.

Not knocking the STI but on paper it is faster, heavier, more expensive, poor fuel economy.

AWD and the weight would make a big difference in how it feels to drive so I would definitely say test drive the two, you can't feel that from paper specs.

Dropping $38K on a Subaru with a very outdated engine seems very steep to me.

While the engine is nice, I would rather go BMW/Audi/Benz when you start getting into that $35K+ territory. IMO, buying a used Audi S4 would be a much better option for you.

The interior on the STI has come a LONG way, but it still is very medicore given the pricepoint.

I just need a comparison on the feel of the two. The 13:1 steering ratio on the STi is quicker then the BRZ. I want a comparison on that. I want a comparison on the turns. I want a comparison on the road feel. I want a comparison on the engagement of the driver and the car. I want a comparison of suspension setup and feel on the road. Stuff like that would help.

Are you a race car driver? Screw the stats drive both and see which one is more fun. If your primary worry is speed and impressing bros go sti. If you like to noodle and feel things out go twin. Whatever you do to the sti it wont feel like a 2800 lb rwd car. That is something for you to feel out

SAME here. Which is why i'd go with the WRX over the STi. More comparable to the BRZ, better fuel economy too. Once they remake the EJ engine ill consider and STI its needs better fuel economy for a 4 cylinder 2.5L.
