I'd string your box, if you'd let me.

Do you need level ground and an enclosed garage?

You need level ground, but an enclosed garage is not really necessary, just nice to have if it's windy or raining... or sunny... in general I guess lol. The FRS parking space in my garage leans about .5 degrees down on the left rear relative to the right rear so I shim the left rear wheel with some plywood. I don't really care about minute difference front to back. Really, this amount of difference shouldn't matter if you are just measuring toe, but I like to be exact and also measure camber. Ground level measured side to side on a bubble level with two equal height standoffs at the ends.

Equipment needed includes 4 jack stands (preferably identical) with axel style fork at the top, fishing line, weights (I just use old/redundant sockets around 10mm), 2x 7ft+ PVC pipes, a metric mm ruler or calipers (I find ruler easier), painters tape, pencil, notebook, possibly a drafting compass, and a small saw.

I like this video's explanation for the string box itself.

I don't like/use their camber measurement method. I found the digital gauge to be a bit off after rotating 90 degrees. I prefer to hang a vertical next to the wheel and measure to the top and bottom.

I also started checking the thrust angle by marking the outside of the front and back wheels as they roll over the same spot and found my string box was off by about .1 degrees so it's not always perfect.

Lifted front again until the weight of the installed wheel pulled everything free.

Winner winner chicken dinner!
My pedders are still noise-free nearly 100k kms later

I can make some time for you next weekend. You can come down here or I can head up that way. Car probably feels okay now, just toe'd in a little bit at the front.

Good news, if the leak is bad enough you'll never have to change your oil, only add new!
