They reason why you want a full tank is because during the storage period the gas tank can rust over time. However it won't do this in 1 year so don't worry buddy

I actually used to store my WRX with less than 25% gas for 5 years and I never had issues. I just take extra care with this one because it's a brand new car and do it the way websites, dealers and members suggested.

Ok thanks for the reassurance. I've had a sports car, truck combo before, but I used to just drive it during the winter when the roads were clear and take the truck on snowy days. This is the first time I'm storing a vehicle. The only reason I'm doing it is because I'd like to have this BRZ last as long as possible, so I can enjoy it for many years to come.

I never stored my BRZ through winter. I just took it out for a spin once the roads were clear. When it sat in my driveway, I would start it up once or twice in a week. My car is still fine.

Oh my car is parked on a relatively flat surface and it's parked on the inside end of the driveway. So if anyone wanted to steal it, they'll have to move a couple of cars to get to it.


Actually, I think I might've left it in first or reverse gear without the handbrake. Here's my bro-science, the transmission has oil in it so the gears and shafts won't be exposed to moisture and get oxidized. The surface of my rotors get rusty if I don't drive the car for more than two weeks. I figured I don't want the hand brake caliper to get stuck onto the rotor over the winter. Your mileage may vary.


In all honestly, don't worry too much. Just get ready to wash the car when the cover comes off in Spring/Summer since there'll probably be spider webs and dead insects.

Some cheap anti freeze would solve that. Although my natural instinct to avoid killing them is kicking in, the conflict is real, my car or some pesky mice.

Like he said, antifreeze but these product videos usually mention that if you don’t want to kill them you don’t have to; you can relocate them.

In order to not kill them you would have to be checking the bucket every few hours. They could only swim for so long.
