Can you use a stock shift knob with the KartBoy Short Shifter?

Of course. KB didn't change the thread pattern from OEM.

Installed!!!

This was an excellent write up! I like the images that show the actual differences in Shift throw.
So there are a few differences with the BRZ limited. For instance, the push start makes it a little harder. I found removing the trim around the shifter allowed me to get better access to the panel and push it out. Also, you have the seat warmer buttons to disconnect.

All in all, pretty straight forward. I didn't think removing the dust cover was all that hard, until I realized I tore it when I was putting it back on :-(

I have the Mtech springs to install and when I do that I'm going to change the transmission and differential oil to Motul. I'm curious how those changes will affect the feel.

Overall, I like the shorter shift lengths. I have yet to give it a real test drive, but that will be after a shower.

Great write up.

Those of you who installed Kartboy short shifter kit, are you guys having same concern like I do?

The reverse is pretty tough to put in than stock. The lock-out itself feels like it it uses much stronger spring..

Nope, no problems getting into reverse here. The feel going into the gate in all gears is certainly firmer, but none of them are HARD to get into.

I'm not sure if it was the grease I put, but it seemed very stiff at first. But now, about one month later I am so happy. In the back of my head I feel that someone changed it back to the stock shifter when I wasn't looking. That is how comfortable I feel with it now. It is so easy to shift. The only thing different feeling from the stock as far as force needed to shift is pulling up on the reverse lockout. It is hard in a good way. Stopped me from playing with it when I am driving.

Did this install in 45 mins. without any tears thanks to this DIY tutorial. I've got the BRZ with push-button start but these instructions work as it's the same 6 tabs that keep it in place as in the pictures. Best investments for this install: telescoping magnet, panel removal tool, and paper towels/rags.

Got the rear bushing installed yesterday. Removing the old bushing was easy. Putting in the new one was decidedly not. Required help, as I didn't want to remove the FP or driveshaft, & thus replacement meant working around those two pieces. It was doable, but a pain in the shoulder blades , ass, and elbows (I've got interesting bruises in all of those places from having been laying flat on concrete for several hours straight yesterday putting in the rear bushing, transmission mount bushing, and Mtec springs).

It was worth it, though. Shifting feel is much more precise.

I'm on my phone so if I make mistakes, blame Sportsguy83

KartBoy Short Shifter DIY and Review

Does the rattle mean I put something on wrong?? What is the cause of the rattle? Also how do I know if it's in backwards?

Thanks for the good DIY.

Should add - if you USE HEMOSTATS (aka: ROACHCLIPS) for the clip - you stand a better chance of not crawling around under the car to look for it (more than once - ask me how I know).

LOL…

Good writeup…

I'd really like to know the answer to this as well. I don't think it can be, but I don't know.

On phone I am. Therefore, if mistakes I make, Frank Oz blame you should.
