Tires turned blue
I took my car to the track 2 weeks ago 6 session of 25 minutes each at Blackhawk Farms over 2 days. I drove the car home and aside from 2 short trips (15-20 minutes) the car has sat since then. Today when I went out to the car I noticed the outer shoulders of all 4 tires seem to be blue. Supposedly this can happen sometimes after high heat in the tires.
Has anyone else seen this with their tires? Does anybody know what exactly causes it? I'm really curious more than concerned. Tires are RE71R |

This is caused by the scientific fact that RE71Rs are fucking badass tires.

It's common. Just basic heat wear. Power sliding much? Lol
My guess, breaking too late while trying to turn.

Can you really narrow down what my driving style is based on the pattern of blue? I certainly wasn't taking it like a drift course, but maybe a tiny bit of angle. The blue pattern seems to be pretty even front to back and left to right (blackhawk is primarily a right hand course but with a long left sweeper at turn 5).

I have never been a track guy but did a pile of drag racing back in the 70s. It is much more impressive when you can manage to get the whole tread (or more accurately, where the tread should be) blue!

OP, this is completely normal if you're actually getting heat into the tires. You'll also notice the rubber looks very different between the running surface and the sidewall after a good track day.

Completely normal. Looks like you may need to increase the air in that tire though, that's a good bit of rollover to the sidewall.

You maybe sliding that tire / that end of the car excessively. That's a lot of heat to change the color. Only time I've seen that on my own cars I was overdriving. YMMV though, if your instructor or data or whatever seems to indicate you're doing fine, that's cool

My RS4 tires have this, all 4 of them, almost all of the contact patch has it except for a tiny wit bit in the middle of it (guess I may be running pressures too low after all). My nittos never turned blue tho, so there is certainly some magic to this "street" tires that makes them stick as much as a "slick" tire (nittos and maxxis, which arent really slicks, no more than street tires are at least).

Or more camber... especially if it's a front tire.
