Brian Crower Stage 1 Cams

Our team started research to further develop performance upgrades for the FA20 as we want to maximize the potential of this platform. We approached Brian Crower with our findings as they expressed that they had a Cam profile that they wanted to test out. As we had worked with this company before with our Honda Challenge family we did not hesitate to take on this new opportunity with the FRS.

At that point, our car was already equipped with the base AVO Turbo kit with a 6PSI actuator. We produced 205WHP and 170WTK on a Dyno Dynamics (15% loss from a Dyna Jet). During the research, we found room to further improve the heads with port work and springs to support higher RPMs along with higher lift cams.

The conditions to our testing were to remain at 6PSI and stock exhaust, but we were allowed to implement our newly ported heads and replacement springs. After the install we returned to Bill at @DeliciousTuning to see if we had created any new numbers. We were very happy to see a 9.3 increment on the WHP (214.8WHP) and +20WTQ (190WTQ). Most notable at 3500RPM were we gained 35WTQ and remained stable for 3000RPM before falling off. During the tuning, Bill stated that he was able to be aggressive on the timing which allowed for the gains. As we started the tuning we noticed the cams were building to red line, which required an increase of our rev limit by 300RPM. It became clear that our power was limited by our stock exhaust but at this time we are waiting for new product from @AVOturboworld.

After the dyno testing was completed we asked Bill to create an E85 tune so we could have the map available for track days. Our first impression on the 91 map; we could really feel the turbo spooling sooner and harder, causing the rear end to squat and dig out of the corner. The increase torque had no problem turning our meaty tires, and with the way the cams lengthen the torque band the car quickly climbs through the gears. At no point do you feel the car fall out of its power band.

Brian Crower Stage 1 cams have an increase in both duration and lift over stock. Further, there will be some NA testing and will be happy to provide information as soon as that info is provided to us. They will start production soon and we will do our best to keep this tread updated with the latest information as well.

We will be happy to answer any questions.

Not sure if these will just drop in, but a recent build of an 2AR-FE used those lifters. Cant find the link to the build, though I think its on MotoIQ's site
Some Updates:

We have talked about the poor spring design on the FA20 and the possibility of the having rocker arm problems seeing as the FA20 valve springs have an install pressure of 35 lbs and at .005 lift it was 55 lbs.

We meet with Papadakis Racing last week and compared the 2AZ stock part, their upgraded 2AZ kit and the FA20 parts. The rocker designs in similar to the 2AZ motor. However we have some advantages over the 2AZ. THE 2AZ uses a hydraulic lifter and the rocker arm has a slightly smaller pocket for the valve cap and lifter. The FA20 uses a solid lifter (similar to the GM lifter used by Papadakis) and the rocker that has a touch deeper slotting (closer to the ones they use).

Steph also said that the rocker popping off was not RPM related as they tested different rpm ranges. They found it was the bounce off rev limit and knock related. At this time, we both feel the best solution to control the rocker is to upgrade the springs and set the valve lash on the tighter side of the specs as we have already done.

will there be sacrifices down low and with the driveability?

Don't wanna sound snooty, but just curious why you only made 205 whp with the base kit when it's supposed to make 40 more than that. Cams look badass can't wait to see more!

It's the dyno, a Dyno Dynamics is 15% lower then a dyne Jet as stated above. if you do the math its 235.75 WHP and that was with 5PSI of boost. The stock exhaust is really holding us back.

drivability is great both on and off boost. We have been driving her for about a month now.

We hope that we will see a few more stages and we will provide updates as they come.

Can we get numbers?

Duration, lift etc. Photos of the lobes would be nice too.

Thanks for the reply. I was just curious since I had mine tuned at PTuning and they have Dyno Dynamics as well. My first tune hit 255 whp. I did have overpipe, frontpipe, muffler delete and 93 octane tune at the time though. I didn't anticipate that my exhaust mods really had that much impact but I guess it makes sense now adding it all up...
