Didn't read the article, but just bought my frs last week. I was looking for a brz/frs maybe for about a month, prior to last week. When looking on auto trader, I would say around 2/3rds were manuals, not auto. When it comes to other cars, I would say itmajority of regular cars like civics, Corolla's or elantras, majority of them were auto, maybe 80-90 percent.

Even when I looked at other sources like Facebook marketplace and kijiji. I still found majority of used brz/frs for sale were manual.

That's good, make it rarer.
Maybe 2021 when new gen comes out, there is only auto, and the old gen with manual price spike up.

This is one of those things that is self inflicted IMO. I will only buy a manual transmission cars. Every time I've been to the Toyota dealer they have zero on the lot and I just walk away. I've been trying to find a Corolla hatch or the new body style, but no go. The Honda dealer always has at least a few available. This is in an area with 5 million plus people and Toyota is the best selling brand.

"Automatics are better"...in your opinion, for you and the way you enjoy driving. They are not "better" for me. Why would you think that the only possible reason someone may not think exactly like you would indicate some kind of defect in that person?
You think you like a manual better, but you're mistaken. The science is in, and it proves Automatics are better. You can't argue with science.

MT guys are always seeking more "driver involvement". AT guys just go for a drive.

Way back when the BRZ was released to the UK press for a review in the UK, Subaru only had an automatic!! it got shot down, 3star car, slow, unresponsive and just plain dull.. The MT addressed some of the issues but the AT poor showing was never forgotten.

The science is in and AT is dull. Might as well buy a tesla and let that kart you around so you can get back to doodling on your phone.

The main feature of the car is fun to drive, and MT enhances that fun. Any AT is just less fun than it could be for the sake of being a lazy driver, so if that's better then I'm fine doing it the old not as good way. Sometimes the old fashion way is the most satisfying.

(I'm just givin you AT guys a hard time, I know it has its up sides and is down to the personal preference, that being said...Manual is better)

they cherry picking the stats here...the twins have had a MT take rate as high as 60% at one point. every MT enthusiast has already picked one up so it isn't a surprise that after the smoked cleared, the AT variant became the more popular pick probably a good chunk of them being girls...here in AZ I see many women driving the twins, great to see.

I wanna see full global stats with MT/AT %, then we would be looking at a far better picture.
