Not really.

You wrote a novel when another member asked you to put your thoughts into 1 sentence. He actually put your thoughts into 1 sentence, and made it NOT seem like incessant rambling. Maybe it's an American thing, make your answers short and simple, because nobody cares what you think, they just care about the facts.

Actually I summed it up in the first sentence of that post. Maybe it is an American thing. If you don't like my posts, don't read them.

What's an American thing? What are you referring to?

Take this tongue in cheek mate, but I watch the Discovery Channel and it seems these days nobody does details. It's all summary, summary, drama, summary. Maybe that's the way America is going and unfortunately, regarding TV we are not far behind you!

I don't think you need details to get your point across though. I agree that people need to learn defensive driving skills first, but that can be said with minimal effort.

I don't understand how going 10 mph in 5th gear is a good idea. What if something happens and you need to get out of the way? You have zero power on tap, so you'd have to shift into a lower gear, which takes up time you should be using to get out of the way. Would it not be better to just always be in the proper gear for the speed you're traveling? This is why rev matching is important. Hell, heel-toe is also great for that sort of thing. Those techniques are used so that you can always be traveling in an appropriate gear.

Drive how you like driving. I double clutch heel toe for the fun of it, it's something to do, and yes it has other benefits, I know plenty of people that don't, ive taught people how and then they stopped doing it because they don't like it, or trying stressed them out, does it make me or anyone else some god of drivers ? No, doesn't matter, who cares lol just drive how you're most comfortable, that's by far the safest way

This is a good example of what the OP is talking about.
Trying to explain heel-toe techniques to beginners is just a distraction.

I drive my BRZ on the street and I NEVER heel-toe. WHY?
Because I CANT and dont need to.
My foot does not span across the two pedals correctly in this car.
I have tried it, and it is dangerous because the chance that my foot slips off of the brake is just too great
AND the only time it is even remotely necessary is HARD braking into a corner which we should not be doing on the street on a regular basis.

In my racecar, I heel-toe all of the time because the pedals are arranged to make it very easy (porsche 914) AND I learned to heel-toe in that car because it would not hold idle without heel-toe.

The OP is not telling you to not do it, he is just emphasizing that it is overkill for 90% of us.

Wow! There are apparently a lot of elite, 1% drivers on this forum. Or at least, there are a lot who hold that opinion of their own driving knowledge and skill levels.

I like to compare my driving skills to both Louis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso.

And all three of us think this thread is total crap.

Not sure if troll, funny thread tho. Obviously all these racetechniques aren't a necessity for beginner drivers but there's nothing wrong with using them aslong as you don't drive like a jackass.

By your logic even having the radio on is a distraction keeping you from safe driving because listening to a song could use up large parts of your brain. Say goodbye to passengers because they could distract you, whilst we are at it everything is a distraction let's stay home it's safer. There's a reason why they don't give licenses away in a cornflake packet. You have to earn your drivers license. And if you can't operate (changing gears/braking etc) a vehicule whilst maintaining attention to the road then you shouldn't be driving at all.

If your brain is overloaded in regular traffic, I suggest you do some mental exercise and train in a simulator. My kids are out there.
This.

Louis, Fernando and I all disagree with this entire thread because we drive with two pedals.

Paddle shift for the win.
