Maintenance records

I was curious what everyone does to record their maintenance history. I have been using this trash Toyota owners app that had my first couple free oil changes and I started recording all the maintenance I've done in that app. It sucks but better than nothing. I also use my trip A to count the mileage between oil changes, not ideal but has been working so far.

I was wondering if your guys are more/less organized in recording maintenance on your car and how you do it.

I just use an excel spreadsheet.

List the date, mileage and oil used. Or whatever I did on that date with the type.

I have a date stamper for my phone for pics. I take date stamped pics of what I am doing. For instance for an oil change I take pics of the odometer, oil draining, new oil and filter. I print them out and save them. If needed for warranty issues this should be sufficient for Toyota.

I have a leather binder for all my maintenance receipts. I just hole punch them and stick them in... Is this question directed at those doing their own maintenance?

I cannot imaging that maintenance records are ever going to make a difference in resale price on one of these cars.

That said, I keep a spreadsheet as well, but that is because I am a nut case (engineer, same thing), not because it needs to be done.

Gotta have them to reference when the last time you did something but forgot when you did it. I do a a bunch of maintenance earlier than it says I need to, so things can get confusing quick without documenting when certain things where done. I think it is more for the owner than resale value, having an older car with all the maintenance recorded is cool thing to have around.

not necessarily, just maintenance. I've been keeping mine in that shitty app since the Toyota started it with the free oil changes when I bought the car and every time I do any maintenance I just note it in the app. I have everything logged such as installing aftermarket parts to just oil changes to the JO2 recall.

I'm sick of using the app and I want to switch to a better method of recording maintenance so looking for ideas.

I use the "B" odometer, when it gets to around 5k km, service and reset.

Christmas time is gearbox and diff time, roughly.

I agree with #enderW88, these are cheap cars, service records are not going to be high on the lists for the people buying them used, how the car looks and actually runs are the selling points.

Give me 5 minutes just looking at a car and I'll tell you if the car was maintained well and looked after.

Plus, a service stamp doesn't mean all the work required for that service was carried out, maybe they did the engine oil and filter, stamping the book, missing the coolant flush or gearbox/diff oil change.

Plus, all the money I've saved by servicing my own vehicles makes up for any perceived loss from not having log books.

Plus servicing my own vehicles is rewarding and fun.

In the immortal words of Jello Biafra, " Trust your mechanic he'll awlays come through and rip you off".

I stuff my receipts and records in a manila envelope marked FR-S and stick it on a shelf in the garage. Of course it's organized - the newer stuff is on top -

I have the excellent iOS app Car Care, and I have everything recorded since I bought it for all my vehicles in there. Works well. I even record every time I get gas.

After each oil change, I make a video and put it on youtube, cold starts and warm idling just so I have something to reference for the dates I did oil changes and also to review (wearing headphones) the sounds the engine is making and compare it with other cars. I had the valve spring recall done a month ago and have been using this to check to make sure the car is running the same as it did before.
