Compression tester adapter was the wrong size so still not sure if the engine is okay yet.

Hey looks like your piston kissed your spark plug. Drop the engine time.

Engine is just about ready to come out. Been working lots of overtime and my work space is limited at the moment so it may be a week or two before it actually comes out.

I'm waiting to see what failed and if I can determine why but I'm already debating if I want to build an engine, stay with a stock engine, or do a swap (LS anyone?). My preference would be an LS swap, but time and money may not let that happen just yet.

LS swaps arent cheap or easy. Building an engine with your current setup will be cheaper after tune and parts. Figure 450-500hp to the wheels on this car is a mess.

I agree, not cheap or easy, but I will consider an LS swap before building this engine because first, to build this engine you are looking at anywhere from 7-10k and second, even if you build the motor you still have to deal with the "glass" transmission.

Also 500 hp 500 tq NA vs boosted

As much as I hate to say it... you might as well LS swap. Building an engine is a huge pain and will be very costly. Might as well just get that v8 power while you're at it

I think it would be "cheaper" long term to do a proper LS swap than build an FA20, try to make power, and all the associated costs that come with that route.

LS swap should be relatively easy now anyways right? There's gotta be a half a dozen full swap kits out by now, no?

Problem is after getting a taste of nearly 400whp I want that all the time and probably a little more. And I've come to the conclusion there's no way I can expect even a built FA20 to hold up long enough at 500whp with my driving to justify the cost (I would be driving it daily). Not to mention how many transmissions I might break. So I'm either going to have to stay at low power with an FA20 or do a swap.

An LS swap would solve several issues at once for me: more power without a huge loss of reliability, stronger trans, easier to work on, and cheaper to replace if I blow it up (this is a big one because I might just do something stupid like seeing how much boost it will hold :P ).
If I do an LS swap it won't be nearly as expensive as others since I would be doing the vast majority of the fabrication and labor myself.

So far I'm looking at approximately 3 or 4 different scenarios.
1. Go back to a N/A FA20 and just work on destroying the curves (and probably buy a different car to do the stupid amounts of power thing with)
2. Low boost FA20 (300whp or so) and be happy I can keep up with modified N/A V6 cars
3. LS swap with
A) lightly modified N/A V8 (probably a 5.3L) making reasonable power while being reliable
B) 4.8L twin turbo with the goal of making an unreasonable amount of power (because I'm dumb like that)

You apparently have plenty of time/money/skill so why stop at a 4.8 or 5.3? Don't you want to see what a TT 7 liter will do for you? Or just say fuck it and get a v10 out of an Indy car or viper or whatever really.

Lmao, nice assumption. Because going from an engine that will be less than $1k to closer to $10-20k is no big deal. I typically work 60+ hrs/week, 7 days/week, occasionally I get a Sunday off. I used most of this years vacation time to do the turbo and that means I ended up working more hours and doing harder work on my vacation than I do at my job. And I make a lot of sacrifices in other areas of my life in order to have the time/money to do stuff like this. I was really looking forward to getting a break from dumping money/time into the car/turbo and just get to enjoy driving it. Blowing the engine this soon has been very inconvenient.
