Assuming you meant next to the gear number, its the shift indicator. On the automatic its an "available shift" indicator showing you whether you have the option to shift up or down based on what the revs would be after the shift.

It means to shift up for better economy. I like it as a learning tool when I first own a car so I can get a feel for how low in the RPM range the manufacturer is expecting me to cruise. But after a while I ignore it.

It typically hits right before or a little after 3000rpm, the before/after seems to be based on your throttle.

Coming from a high-revving Si, it took a little getting used to being able to make torque at 2000rpm but rest assured the car surely can!

Has anybody else not been able to turn this on??? At first I was embarrased to ask but I have pressed that ODO button over and over again with key on, key off, accessory mode...no "G-on" selection. Could this be something the dealer has to make available, and did not?

I wonder if it would be easy to install a remote start and tap into that circuit so the car would never try and start if it recognizes it's in gear?

I dont think it would be possible for the car to recognize a gear when its not moving. Someone can correct me but i think the ECU finds out what gear you are in after like a sec.
