Had my 2nd Barbagallo track day
Track day on Sunday.. here are the results (1:02.1950sec)
I beat an EVO VI, Clio 172, WRX, BMW E60 M5 and a HSV E3 Maloo Ute Woo, go me /sarcasm This was run on Michelin PS3 235/45/17's which are a high performance summer tyre. Due to several hiccups, BRZ going off into the sand, another car doing the same, a driver of a silver R34 GT-T hitting the wall and a RX-7 spilling oil around the whole length of the track, about 2.5 hours at least was lost. Total BS I was hoping to wear out the rest of my PS3's that day and swap to my Kumho Ecsta KU36's to try out and see any improvement in lap times.. maybe next time. Another event on Australia Day(26th), so I might considering going to that one. Maybe with some GOOD track tyres this time. Anyone who's interdasted in my 2 week old KU36's with RPF1(17x7) can PM me. They HAVE NOT been tracked. Just have been driven for two weeks daily duty to try and remove the release agent on the outer side of the tyres. New years resolution is to crack the 1 minute barrier while still having the car naturally aspirated. No NOS, Turbo or Supercharger. Everything else(stripping out interior, slick tyres, CAMS(when HKS develop them) is fair game). My PB is 1:02.1670 Some pics from one of the fellow photographers here:

I mean a stock car can whip around that course in 1:02... Let alone one now worth how much? 70K? Just saying, perhaps you would require FI if you ever wanted to better that time... |

And I would never let any one else drive my car on the track no matter how good they think they are.. Hahaha nice of you to keep tabs on how much I've spent on my car though If its any consolation to you, the car is unencumbered Nice first post btw!! Looking to hear more insight from you

Guys, no need to be offended.
Although poorly executed, I think he does have a point in that driver mod should be the number priority for all of us unless you are at @CSG Mike level which could really make use of the mods on a track. The amount of money spent on mods doesn't really mean anything other than you have money to blow. Enjoy the process and share the love man.

It's always valuable to have a more experienced/faster driver do a lap or two around the track in your car, even if you ask them to just take it easy and leave a lot of room for error. Make sure you take a video of them in your car, and sit with them.
While riding, focus on one or two aspects of their driving, and note what they're doing differently. Chances are, even though they're going at a reduced pace, their habits haven't changed from that lap to a hot lap pace. Review the video often, and note their line, shift points, turn-in, when they get on the gas, and how they correct. Also, ask them for feedback on your car. It just may be the best gallon of gas and little bit of tire/brake you ever spent. Alternatively, find a faster driver with the same car, and ask them for a ride. You can get almost the same experience, except you won't gain the confidence from having a "oh so this is what my car can do" moment. |

Point taken guys. I'm gonna go easy on modifications for the car this year and invest in a fair bit of track time and driver instruction.
To be fair, I'm not keen on letting other people drive my car on the track due to insurance(or lack of). That's the main factor.

As to being offended, hardly. It's obvious the guy was having a subtle go at me, it's all good. People like that motivate me.. with a smile FYI from what I have heard, that 59.3 was done on a car with: "KW's, 245 Advan 050's, Mechanical LSD and a 4.7 ratio diff" and a really good driver.

Holy mod list.
Don't worry too much about tires. If anything, lower grip tires will help you explore the limits safely, and not mask mistakes. |

You guys have a much larger motorsport community down there... I'm seriously jealous.
The community here is nowhere near as large Also, my advice about rides and having people drive is based on my own experience. Everyone seems to forget that I haven't been driving all that long compared to the drivers the larger shops on here have (Element Tuning, Evasive, etc.). I did, however, utilize a lot of the resources available to me, namely, more experienced drivers. I always tried to get rides from different people, and have a select handful (that I deemed safe/trustworthy drivers) drive my car with me sitting in it, and I can tell you that sitting in my own car helped tremendously. You'll be able to pick out the things you like and dislike about every driving style, and eventually develop your own. On the flip side, be careful of people who ASK to drive your car. Although most will be respectful, some will not. Screen drivers carefully, and only allow people to drive your car if you are 100% comfortable with it. |
