Spun out now a CEL
Okay so as it states, I spun out in my FRS and in doing so killed the car (first rwd car and never experienced spinning out before) the car had trouble starting afterwards but it did after a couple tries. Now I have a CEL, any quick ideas? Car seems to be running and sounding normal, except for crickets anyways im gonna scan it later today but as of right now im just figuring i may have flooded the engine and itll go away after a few cycles.

You wont know anything till you know the code. How the hell did you spin out? Were you taking a sharp turn at like 90 with the TC off?

Heh,
It happens. I hydroplaned with TC on and spun out in the rain before on a freeway on ramp and crashed into a dirt bank. I've never driven RWD before until I got this car. |

I've seen an FR-S throw a CEL after a spin on the track. My buddy's S2000 threw a CEL after a spin as well. When you spin, depending on how you react the car can undergo some very strange loads. If you throw the clutch in immediately, you are generally going to be better off. If you don't, the load on the motor can go from very heavy to very light, and back again, at a rate that is not technically possible for the motor under normal driving conditions. This can throw the crank position sensor off or other sensors. Generally you have nothing to worry about. Reset the codes and they likely won't come back. There are cases where permanent damage can occur, like when oil pump nuts back off on e36 M3s, but these cases are rare.
Scan the code, write it down, reset the ECU. It probably won't come back.

You want help? Next time you take trac off, do it on a track w a driving instructor as it seems you may need to practice rwd a little more. Goodluck with the car!

Yep, I was doing donuts a while back and threw a CEL. Cut off the car, started it back up and it disappeared. Hasn't done it since. I have, however, done more donuts...

This has happened to a lot of people I know. I think you should get the code checked, but their lights all went out after a little while. As for the people on this thread bashing him and supplying nothing at all but stupid comments, please move on. We don't need people on here bashing others, in fact, you can get banned from the forums for doing so. Make sure you take a car like this to a safe spot, like an abandoned parking lot and push the car to its limits. I took this car to an abandoned parking lot and pushed it to its limits right away and spun out dozens of times, this is how you learn the limits and become a safer driver. Noob4life, just keep driving and don't let some of the riff raff on the forums give you a bad taste. 99% of the people on here generally want to help and share a love for this car. Please though don't go out endangering people by pushing your car past your level of driving skills. Leave it on sport mode until you have had enough experience with this car and its limits. I will be pushing some of the responses in this thread to the administrators because "trolls" are not welcome here. |
