Ultimate 86 Motorsports V8 FR-S
Hi Guy's, I have been lurking on the forums for a while now (Great source of info BTW) and I thought I would let you know about our Formula-D build that has been underway for a couple of months...
We are in the process of building a V8-swapped dedicated drift-car. What is a little different about our build is that we are using a Toyota 3UR-FE based power plant rather than a Chevy LS motor (I hear that at least two chevy powered FR-S's are under construction for the 2013 championship, should be interesting!) Heres a rundown on the car build specs: Chassis: Lightened and strengthened stock chassis. Seam welded. Formula D spec roll cage. Lexan windows. Quick release body panels (N1 Concepts wide-body). Carbon fiber roof, doors, hood and trunk. RHD Conversion. Fuel cell, Dry sump oiling system, Radiator and cooling system, Batteries re-located to rear for optimal weight distribution. Suspension: Competition Coilovers (Manufacturer to be decided) . Custom fabricated adjustable suspension arms and links. Adjustable Blade sway bars. Custom-modified steering knuckles. Brakes: To be decided Wheels: To be decided. Tires: To be decided Engine: 6.2 Liter Toyota 3UR-FE DOHC V8. Designed and built by Gary Kubo. Custom Velasco EN30B billet-steel crankshaft, Billet steel rods, Custom JE Forged pistons, "Kubo spec" custom Camshafts, Ported and polished big-valve cylinder heads, Custom long-tube headers, Kubo-spec sheet aluminum intake manifold, Dry-sump oiling system, Pro-charger supercharger with custom gear-drive system. Running on Methanol. Power output: Minimum 1000hp. (We will post dyno figures when testing and setup is complete) Electronics: Motec M880 ECU (Fully enabled) Motec CDI-8, Custom Mil-spec wiring harness, 8x MSD HVC-II 8261 coils. Motec Dash, Fuel system: 16 x 2200cc fuel injectors, ATI Fuel cell, Waterman mechanical fuel pump. Aeroquip braided steel hoses and aluminum fittings. Drivetrain: Tilton Carbon-Carbon clutch, Custom "Kubo" flywheel, Quaife 69G six-speed sequential transmission, Custom driveshaft, Winters quick-change rear end, Custom Mark Williams axles. Our approach with this build has been to make every aspect of the car as good as it can be. Some people may say that a supercharged 6.2 liter V8 with billet internals is a case of over-kill…our view is that if the engine is built to produce in excess of 1000hp with complete reliability then we can run at lower power levels without any worries about it staying in one piece. Not all tracks need huge horsepower and all we have to do is tune for each venues characteristics. The build is coming along rapidly. The car was stripped and we made a quick test-fit of the stock 3UR before the bare chassis was acid-dipped in preparation for seam welding. Heres a couple of shots of the chassis after acid dipping... We mounted the chassis on a rotisserie to make life easier for our chassis fabricator Scott "Chip" Stanwood. Meanwhile engine builder Gary Kubo was busy building our engines, We have two engines, a primary and a spare that are built identically. The primary engine is completely finished and Gary is busy assembling the spare at the current time. The engine/gearbox and rear-end will be fitted in the next couple of weeks and I'll be updating this thread with images as it happens. We are still undecided on wheels, tires, Coil-overs and brakes at the current time although I expect final decisions over the next week or so. So far it's been an exciting project and I'll keep this thread updated with images as we move along.... More info about the team at http://www.ultimate86.com There's a shot of the N1 Concepts wide-body that we are using on this build on the home page... If the links to the pictures are in a password-protected storage site, then they won't work on a forum like this. Your best bet is a public site like photobucket or Flickr. Direct uploads work as well, but we try to keep that to a minimum (at least I do) so as to limit the bandwidth we use up for this forum.

No problem. I love photobucket, it's one of the few that aren't blocked by the network at work. Looking forward to seeing this build come to life!
