well this may suck.

Well after only a few months of having my fr-s (half of which I was in basic) just found out yesterday looks like theres a good possibility im going to be stationed in japan... im super stoked on that but problem is im leasing the fr-s and the lease will not allow me to take it with me... so most likely ill have to return the vehicle or sell it. I know this is a super cool story bros but I just wanted to rant a little of my problems away!

Firstly, thanks for your service. Secondly, doesn't the dealership offer you some sort of incentive/break because you are being sent out of country if you have to return or sell the car?

While you're there, take a stop by the plant in Ota, Gunma, Japan and tell them to fix the issues most of us are having :p

No offense dude, but leasing or buying a car before you get pcs orders is a pretty risky move. I have friends who bought cars while in MOS school and then came to Okinawa and had to leave their cars in storage for the 2+ years they've been there. Kind of a waste if you ask me.

No military transport available for your vehicle? Or are you concerned about the lease part? Cause if it's the lease part I would go to the dealer or a bank and covert to a loan.

One, you're assuming he bought the car knowing he was getting orders. Two, OP, that is a shitty deal, but on the bright side; you'll be able to drive the GT86 while you're over there and you might be able to bring one back. Three, taking your car over there would be very expensive, there's a lot of conversion stuff you have to do to make it road legal over there.

First thing you do when you get off the plane is go find yourself a Skyline R34 and drive it like you stole it until they send you home.

You can get out of the lease due to your military orders, it's called a military clause. Pretty much all leases, and rentals (houses/apartments, etc...) have this, or should. Also, the reason he can't take it to Japan is because Japan is very strict on what vehicles military members can bring over. It used to be no car newer than 1976. It could be a little newer than that now, but not much.

hey bro, myself and @akuhei are getting stationed back in japan and we are both going to try and ship our cars over, what you should do is if you want to keep the car, get a loan through usaa and they will let you ship to any country(keep in mind japan is rhd country meaning you need the gt86 headlights and will have to pay inspection fees). what branch and where are you getting stationed?

Thanks for info guys, honestly I didnt think it was going to be that big of a deal getting a car over seas, but u live and learn right. Talked to a dealership today but they didnt have much info for me other than call toyota when I actualy get my paper orders. I think we will be able to either return it or sell it problem is its our only car so we dont want to get rid of it to soon.

We are very excited though even if I cant take the car there im hoping to buy something super sick over there!

Im air force and going to misawa

Hey Bub, enjoy Misawa. I have several buddies who have been there and loved it. Now as far as dissolving the lease. Kmbkk is right abut a "military clause", it is the Soldier, Sailor's Relief Act of 1974. Due to service beyond our control as service members it can cause "accidental debt". Due to the orders and a smart 1st Shirt most leases can be dissolved as long as the car wasn't abused beyond mechanical use. So get with your section leader, flight chief, and Shirt to see if they can assist. Have fun and enjoy!
