WTF......

Comparing a Scion to a Porsche???

Really??

I know you guys are excited about your cars but seriously need to tone it down.

the FR-S is a budget "sports" car and a slow "sports" car on top of that.

Anyone who could really afford a Porsche would never consider a Scion.

I think you guys are just trying to hype up your cars. Anything that slow should easily be able to take a corner so im just not impressed with it.

Au contraire, KingTut sold his 2012 Cayman R and bought a BRZ. The BRZ is a little bit like the FR-S IIRC.

Please see Exhibit A.

IMHO Chris Harris is spot on with this review. Keep in mind that the Cayman in review has aftermarket suspension bits and exhaust.

A bit fuzzy with the facts there... . Not sure what version of the Cayman weighs 3605lbs. Are you including 2 overweight drivers. Then probably a 0-60 of 5.8 makes sense.

3,605 lbs is the gross vehicle weight, not curb weight..

I shopped both. The base cayman has zero torque down low and is miserable to drive daily in traffic. It's adequate up top. The interior is awful. It has that idiotic 15 feet of clutch pedal and long throw shifter Germans insist on putting in so many of their cars.

The S has a much nicer motor and better interior, but I like working on my cars and the enclosed mid engine configuration, lack of a token rear seat, German reliability, ridiculous clutch throw, and the fact that it just isn't much more FUN to drive didn't justify the extra cost for the Porsche to me. I bought a BRZ.

I couldn't justify the P-car either, sadly. Interior was bland, carpet was already looking faded (this was a 2007), same price as BRZ Limited but without nav, heated seats, etc, IMS bearing is failure-prone which means I'd want to drop the motor and spend a couple grand replacing it right off the bat, and aftermarket parts are $$$ compared to parts for the BRZ/FR-S. Lots of fun to drive, but not worth it IMO. If I had the extra few thousand or so to spring for the Cayman S, I might think differently, but if that one guy could trade his Cayman R for a BRZ and still be completely happy with it for 1/3rd the cost, I think I'd rather the BRZ given my meager budget. I might also think differently if it were going to be a weekend toy rather than a daily, but I need a daily driver.

There is shopping for a car out of curiosity and shopping with the intent to purchase.

Most of your negatives of the Porsche seem like a bit of an exaggeration and sounds more like denial. And i am not sure how the interior of the S is better than the Cayman, either way, they are leagues ahead of the FRS\BRZ.
Also, i dont think anybody will consider the Cayman and say no, it does not have a back seat. If that genuinly was your requirement, you would have not considered the Cayman, a 911 perhaps.

I think both the FRS\BRZ and the Cayman S are great cars for the money.

If you are talking about used Porsches in the price range of the BRZ, then i take what i said back.

I was shopping with the intent to purchase a used Cayman. The interior was lacking, but then again at the time I was driving a brand new Audi S4 with heated seats, nav, bluetooth, etc, so that could have skewed things a bit. The shifter linkage was vague and the knob was plastic. A plastic shift knob? Something easily changed, but still, come on! Granted, the cars I test drove had a blue and a tan interior; had they been black I might've changed my tune. I have driven the FR-S and sat in my friend's BRZ and I can say with confidence that I prefer their interiors, though I didn't think I would. Neither one is perfect, mind you! As for the back seat, I prefer a 2-seater but the extra storage space of the FR-S/BRZ is a plus for hauling track-day extras.

Thanks, I'm glad you can tell me what I genuinely considered. I wasn't really entirely sure, but with your kind assistance I am now much more attuned to what's going on inside of my noggin.
