Only reason why I know what those signs mean.

Why is it harder to spend money on proper tools than on tires?

Uh, I have the opposite problem. I bought a big craftsman tool box years ago and haven't bought any tools since. Now I'm stuck shopping for tires. After calling a tire shop I realized just how much of a tire snob I was. I ended up ordering a set of winters two months into our rainy season and just having a local shop install them. They ride like junk tires but oh well.

I love having the excuse to buy a good "proper" tool. I hate paying for tires.

For most of my years I had a pile of very good quality and expensive tools that I hauled around in a gym bag.

I'm getting tools to improve tire wear? OK, really for handling, but I'll be doing my own alignments and balancing. No more excuses for running the wrong spring rates for the task at hand. It won't fix the driver problem, but this driver is really good at making excuses and hiding behind them...

My budget excuse is I didn't get new tires last season, so I had some funds on the table... That won't cover everything, but a good chunk. AutoX tires aren't cheap. I'll pay the rest avoiding the cost of going to a shop. Maybe my friends will tip for using my garage and I can make money. ... Hah.

I'm even making some of the tools. That bit is fun.

Old tools are my favorite though, you can feel some of the history when you're using them

Probably about 98% of the regulars (no pun intended).

Yep, I remember doing my own balancing and alignment. Just make a bubble balancer with a level and an alignment tool with a 6' 2x2, two nails, a piece of chalk and a length of string (plus a torch - for straight axles) ......
