That's a good suggestion, but unfortunately won't work for me.
Not every track has E85 close by. Last thing I need is to be down on power when racing for the championship because I couldn't drive 30+ minutes to go find gas, or miss the quali and race because I left the track and got stuck in traffic on the highway with no way to exit and turn around. There's plenty of other things that'll break at the track and need fixing when racing, no need to add the complication of a special kind of fuel when you're a 1-man team.

The STS rear mounted turbo is so far the most appealing to me due to it's placement, but I'm not interested in investigating that solution anytime soon. I'll race this engine as is until I see more 86 race cars on track. I'll probably build a second race car with FI and leave this stock for my wife with the intent to run it in a future spec86 series.
2015 will be mainly suspension and tire testing/development. Power will have to wait.

@GrimmSpeed has been good enough to me through their introductory group buy pricing for their awesome products.

The ptuning kit is an incredibly well built quality product as well. The positioning of the STS turbo is the only reason it peaked my interest. Personal preference at this time is that If I'm adding weight up front, it'll be with an LM4 or similar v8. I can walk to autozone and pick up parts in the middle of nowhere when something breaks, or head to a pull-a-part on the Monday afternoon. Raced an '85 GTI in the past, and I learnt a few lessons as a budget-racing college kid.

Already thought about welding a fuel jug storage solution to the front of my trailer to hold 4 five gallon tanks and full tank in the car itself. My wife drives the car in HPDE sessions as well, and I give rides to people whenever possible. Also use my car for pace car, and any random needs to get out on track for emergencies etc. We have multiple 3-day weekends on our calendar. At 10mpg on E85, I see myself easily saying "I'm out of gas" halfway through the 2nd day. First-world problems, I know.

Hell, even using regular pump gas in the GTI, I had that happen at Roebling. (there's no gas at the track for those that don't know, and the gate is closed when there's a session running). Left to go get gas and something happened on track so the session before the race got ended early and race started 5 minutes early. Got back as the pace car was released. Can all be mitigated, but I like sharing my mistakes if someone learns anything at all from it.

I bring two 5 gallon jugs of E85 with me to the local tracks (~1 hour drive from home) as well as a full tank to get there with. I find it usually lasts me about a day and a half before I have to add pump gas back in to keep the level over 1/2 tank to be safe from fuel starvation. I got 9mpg average last time at Road Atlanta, lol

Lol. There's always that. But you can take the lead in figuring out a solution.

I'd like to see how that works in a 48 minute race at Road Atlanta where you're full throttle for nearly 75% of the lap.

ESC Controller would be toast assuming the dump batteries lasted even 20 minutes

Yup yup! But I'll wait for actual data before I make that comment.
