Just spit balling here and I didn't go back and read your write up to see what parts from what engine you actually used but you did mention that the new engine was from a car with fire damage. Is it possible that some of the parts of the new engine suffered heat damage? Unlike heat from when the engine is running a fire can create very isolated hot spots which could cause damage that isn't obvious with an examination. Such hot spots could explain the mystery "weld splatter" material you found in the valve seats. This could be way off base for your current issue but thought it was worth mentioning since other things could fail down the road.

The fire damage didn't look that bad, no melting of any of the aluminum ears etc... My thoughts on the internals is they should be pretty much protected by the oil and coolant inside the motor at the time....

humfrz

While it has been fun, it is starting to wear on me (and the wife) a bit.

I actually just got back from returning the truck and trailer to the track. I happened to take the 2015 crank with me for their opinions as well, they sent me to a machine shop to have it checked....Unfortunately that one is too far gone, still need to break her the rest of the way apart to get the other one checked.

I assume you mean dealer, and no, I don't have time for that kind of run-around.

As much as I have abused the car, I would not expect coverage anyway, which is why I didn't go there in the first place....

That reminds me though, I did inquire on the cost of a motor for the fun of it, complete engine, $23k. Long block; $16k....
