Yes, but your car came with 17x7 wheels. If they allowed that, then to be competitive everyone would have to get 1/2" wider wheels than stock. If you want lighter wheels than stock, they are available. The "mods" you can do are limited to keep costs down. Allowing 1/2" wider than stock wheels just raises costs. There are good 17x7 5x100 wheels out there. RPF1's come to mind.

Yeah going larger diameter versus width is a big difference. More width is definitely a performance advantage, larger diameter not really.

It would be nice if there were more 17x7 wheels, ROTA for instance only makes theirs in 17x7.5. But there are RPF1s, Kosei, Velox VX6-R, etc. 90% of the people in both street and STX just have RPF1s, it's the easy button.

OEM wheels are often far more expensive than the aftermarket options, sometimes as ridiculous as $800 per wheel, for a heavy boat anchor that I don't even want on my car to begin with.

I'm not spending $1000 on wheels. I'll just keep searching for another set of stock wheels that someone is selling off to fund their bling bling 19s yo and pick those up as a second set. The two options I've seen for 17x7s are RPF1s and Kosei... and I'm neither baller nor competitive enough to spend that much money to shed a little bit of weight.
