I have the same thing, except it went right down to the metal. I fully believe it was intentional; you have to throw a door open pretty hard to gouge metal... Home Depot parking lot; was parked next to a plumber's truck and a deliberately left him a ton of room, because the truck was clearly a POS work truck that NO ONE had ever given a shit about. I imagine there was some jealousy and the words "dang foreign cars" were used as he climbed into his teamster-stickered crapmobile..

Maybe it's because I'm in hick Vermont, but I can count on one hand the amount of times someone has tried to race me in my whole life. None of it happened in my bright RED, pompous, cardigan wearing hipster coupe. Now if I had a car they knew was a Subaru, I'd likely get steamrolled on the daily.

Maybe I'm too polite on the road? Maybe my stock catback grants me "old man mid life crisis" status and people don't bother. I think I need sunglasses with thick bright frames and a side exit.

*EDIT*
To be clear, there is no shortage of Challengers, Mustangs, and the like. If anything, every 3rd car is a WRX with an external wastegate and Raceland coilovers. There are plenty of sharks even in this little pool

Having said that, the BRZ is the perfect car to pull off that move.

I keep the stock muffler on because I enjoy the lack of attention it allows me. The car is already flashy looking, so that's one strike against me already. Silver is a pretty bland color, and the quiet muffler doesn't announce my presence. Add a white beard to that, and I get some funny double takes when I pass someone...

Agreed, keeping my stock muffler for the very same reason. On the other hand, sometimes I just want to enjoy the car and push the car faster, and people think I am trying to showboat or try to race.

Orange car. Loud(er) exhaust. Never noticed any abnormal attention. It isn't the colour or the sound that attracts attention it is how the car is driven.

Not sure I can agree there, at least not entirely. Indeed if I were driving like I had the fastest thing on the street someone out there in a Grand Caravan is going to put me in my place until the road stops going straight, lol.

Same color as you, just not as noisy, and I drive and commute very tame, contrary to my car's appearance, and yet frequently get people trying to mess around while I'm literally locked at the speed limit using cruise control, in the right lane, in 6th and barely making a sound compared to all you manual owners at the same speed and gear. On any given night and/or planet alignment I'll get some assclown in a G37 coupe, or a BMW 3-series, or some guy who just had to put giant fart cannons on the back of his S2000, trying his damnedest to get my attention and see if I'll be stupid enough to go along with him. Match my speed and get alognisde me, gun it for a few seconds, see that I'm not doing anything different. Rinse and repeat for a mile. No cops to be found at times like these, of course.

But let me even appear to be speeding because my car's low slung and bright orange, Smokey will pull me over and try to ruin my day instead of the grey Accord in front of me that was indeed speeding. I think it's more of a YMMV situation and not just how the car is driven.

If you get pulled over enough and you aren't actually speeding or breaking the law (meaning they don't have proof) you might be able to press charges against the police department for infringing on your right to freedom of speech/expression (which is what it actually is). Civil rights cases can have some big payouts. Just saying...

I have never experienced any of those things.

Ditto that.

I've driven red sports/pony cars most of my driving life, and have never gotten stopped by the cops in one. I have had stops and a couple of tickets, but they have always been in the family hauler, usually when I was driving "normally" but at a bit too high a speed.

I did get a ticket once on a motorcycle doing 39 in a 35 (really?!?).

It may be I'm more diligently looking for "hot spots" when driving a hotter car, or that I don't tend to do "really stupid" things in them on busy streets, reserving most of my antics for back country roads or empty stretches of freeway.
