Last phase of my flex fuel tune will be tuning the 3.125 pulley on pump gas. First impressions on this setup is that the car is now in beast mode. Torque is significantly increased that you are pushed back in your seat when accelerating. I have to shake it down on our upcoming trackday to give a better assessment.
Hi!!!! Happy new year!!!!
Any updates about tuning the 3.125 pulley on pump gas???

Flex Fuel Tune Update (1-13-15)

Flex Fuel Tune Update (1-13-15)

We finally got to finish my custom flex fuel tune today. I filled up with Blaze 100 (95 octane to the US guys) and headed to the Dyno. I have been running E85 straight for several months now since installing the 3.15 pulley and going back to 95, it feels a tad bit slow. The car feels sluggish, heavy even, and throttle response a bit flat.

Strapped on the Dyno, first pull was a 315whp run and after around 3 runs, we dialed it in at 320whp and 230wtq. We checked for knock, but there was none so now I know that the 3.15 pulley can be safely run on 95 pump.

Interestingly, I sheared my first belt, and after filling up with pump gas, I got crickets. Can't wait to get back to E85.

Hi!!!
Thank you for sharing your dyno.
I have almost same 100 oct gas as your's in my area but no e85 ((((
So I'm going to use it with WMI. The main idea of my project is to use a smallest pulley such as 2.87" or may be even 2.62" which is also confirmed by Vortech as good for my HD v-2 upgraded blower and use WGate to bleed off extra boost on top rpm's because motor is stock. My goal is 10-11 may be 12 psi at 7500 rpm and much more HP and TQ at lower rpm's by getting more psi at all rpm's. I thik 9 psi i can get at 4500 rpm. The problem is that I am afraid about belt slipping with very small pulley. What do you thik about my idea?

I was thinking of the same concept before with the wastegate. I also wanted to use the 2.87 pulley with it to get more boost lower in the powerband. It's just I'm too far from vortech to send in my blower to convert it to V2. I am very interested in integrating a wastegate in my system, so any updates on your end would be appreciated!
About the belt slippage I'm not really sure, I did not break any belts with the stock pulley, but I have broken one yesterday with the 3.12.

Trackday, Brake Upgrade review (1-28-15)

Trackday, Brake Upgrade review (1-28-15)

I have been driving the STI Brembo caliper and WorksBell SMR pad combo on the street for several months now. Stopping power has improved significantly on the street, but I have not tested it on the track, where this upgrade was done for.

The STI brembo calipers work well for a used set, but I've had some problems with the WorksBell SMR pads. They are noisy as hell! The squeal they emit is so loud that it's embarrassing sometimes. I've tried everything to quiet them down, Brake Quiet spray, paste, grease, brake cleaner, and repeated beddings to no avail.
I did hope that this trackday would put some real heat on the pads and lay down a good layer on the rotors to silence them once and for all.

We had two sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, morning run was spent relearning my lines with the cars newfound power. I said last time that with the added HP, it was really easy to miss the braking points and apexes.
I noticed that the SMRs had less initial hot bite compared to the Acre 900C. My initial brake stab did not feel the same compared to the Acre, which felt the car did not want to stop, but with more pedal pressure, I discovered they do stop well.
This led me to discover that the SMR had a wider range for modulation, compared to the Acre 900C. It would just come to preference, more hot bite, or less but with more modulation. The SMRs did not fade all day combined with AP Racing super600 fluid.

I got my normal braking points back with the brake upgrade, and I am now confident that the car can slow down for the corners! I also noticed that the SMR pads had gotten good heat on them as I smelled them cooking during the two sessions. I got another bonus, no more brake squeal!

[ame]http://youtu.be/4AauTp6N6wQ[/ame]

I did notice on one lap, the car entered into some kind of limp mode which did not allow me to rev past 6000rpm. I noticed that the water temp was 115C and I may have been close to overheating my transmission. Oil temps stayed very cool with E85, never exceeding 120C, as they were pegged around 115C during the hot laps.
I have some mods ready to address the cooling system for the AT. More on that soon.

My F1 Style Mirrors Project (1-29-15)

My F1 Style Mirrors Project (1-29-15)

I've always wanted the Craftsquare side mirrors ever since I saw the TRD Griffon. I just could not justify the price for it. I was offered a similar style F1 type mirror which was a universal type only, the price was significantly less and it gave me a reason to make it a project, so here it went.

The side mirrors are above average quality, with real carbon fiber, not the carbon fiber looking ones.

The base and swivel joint is sturdy and tight, so adjustments can be held in place even at speed. I began searching the net for the TRD Griffon and studied how they mounted the CS mirrors. I found some pictures on Speedhunters.com.

It seems they used the universal mount also, with the base screwed on the bottom hole and the other hole bolted on the custom base plate. The base plate is then bolted on the other two stock mounting holes.

I then took the stock mirrors off and made a pattern of the base with cardboard, transferred it to a stainless steel plate, and after checking the fit, went on painting it body color.

I now had my own custom base, but the difference is that I took of the universal mount and screwed the base directly on the the plate. The mirror base has three screws which if you take out leaves you with just the mount.

I also reused the rubber gasket from the stock mirrors, which gives off a better finished look. I also sourced some hex-type bolts which would look better than the stock bolts.

Here is the finished product. The mirrors can be easily removed and the stock ones put back on for daily driving.

Automatic Transmission Cooler (2-11-15)

Automatic Transmission Cooler (2-11-15)

During my last trackday, I had an event on the last few laps of our session. I was driving hard, and knew that the water and oil temps were getting on the high side. On the main straight, I suddenly could not rev past 6000rpm. Oil temp was manageable, at 115C, and water was a bit hot, 118C. So I guess that it may be the AT overheating and the ecu prevented me from revving the motor. Anyway, I did a cool down lap and went in. I was wondering if I did damage to the tranny, but during my way home I tried to redline the car and I was able to. This was after the car cooled down for almost 30 mins. So it may have been a safeguard.
This event really made me think about installing that AT cooler I have been meaning to for a long time now.

I went with a bar and plate type of cooler, because I planned on installing it on top of the crash beam. I went with an 18' cooler and it fit perfect in the space I intended. I did have to take the resonators off of the snorkel to make it fit.

The reason I chose this location is because I did not want to impede airflow to the radiator, intercooler, and condenser. Adding another heat exchanger in front would do that and bleed off more heat in the area, and I thought that the compromise in the crash beam area would make do. I know I would not get the best airflow, but I'm willing to try it out first, and if it does not work then I'll go with a traditional air cooler and stick it out front.

I also installed a defi oil temp guage to monitor ATF temps coming back from the cooler. I used some nifty Earl's bronze fittings to tee in the temp sensor, and some rubber 3/8 oil/fuel hose rated for 300psi.

I set it up like this, transmission-stock heat exchanger-transmission cooler-transmission.
Driving around town, AT temps hover around 80C-90C, which is what other AT owners experience. How well this works on track though, I don't know yet. I will report back after this weekend.

Hey man, have you thought of getting SSP's valvebody upgrade? Shifts look good but could be tightened up a bit
