Kia ....will always be a Kia. Same price as 86, but more power ? I will still ake on the 86... For reliability, and for retained value

Lol at the comments about Kia reliability, compared to the issues we're suffering with the BRZ/FRS.

And don't forget that Kias have a 10 year 100,000 mile warranty. So yeah there's that.

Btw there is a good chance that this car is built. People saying it could be FWD or use the Genesis platform must be on crack. It ain't gonna be FWD, and it ain't gonna be 500lbs lighter than the Genesis and use the same platform.

Few years back when the kia body styles changed, they had hired a design guy from Audi....and a quality guy from Toyota...

I'm just happy other companies are getting into the sporty market again. Competition is never a bad thing!

I'm sorry but I don't trust Kia to produce a driver's sports car. If this car *does* come to life, I expect that it will tick *some* of the boxes, but in the end will probably have some weird quirk about the driving experience - the FR-S is almost perfect IMO except for: not enough power. I can fix that.

I'll cast all my prejudices aside if this comes to light and is a wonderful car though. I almost couldn't believe this said "RWD" when I first looked at it - all of Kia's other cars that I've driven are stereotypical crappy feeling FWD cars. I have not driven the new ones though (but wouldn't hesitate to own as a family hauler/grocery getter).

All these comments about the Korean car companies remind me of the comments I used to hear from the American and European car lovers in the 60s, 70s and early 80s about the Japanese car companies. Look how that turned out! If anything the Koreans are making bigger strides, faster, than the Japanese ever did.

It really looks like they took a FR-S and a tC and morphed them together. Its ugly, its a ugly yellow with ugly wheels and a ugly optima grill. UGLY!

i really dont think that it would take a lot to be a twin killer because most people (even the ones on this forum) are easily persuaded by stat sheets and spec lines. on paper the frs is a terrible sports car. until the car is out and tested, is a pretty useless task to criticize a car that doesnt really exist for things that havent been observed

I thought the same thing. I'll probably never do it at this point but at least I know I can.

They've already said they have no plans to bring this car to production. They've said this may at best serve as a preview of the possibility of things to come. With that statement, it suggests nothing about the specs is a guarantee. Wouldn't be surprised to see something radically different from this - dumbed down and less of a sports car. But, I don't see it being FWD because of the Forte Koup. Would seem stupid to have two FWD small coupes.

A couple of years ago, I would have included this as a must-have based on my experience with various FWD cars (I remember Honda's transition from DW to MPS with the Civic/Integra chassis), but these days I'm not so sure. With enough static negative camber in the front and RWD, front macpherson struts don't really seem to be an issue, even on the track. It's one of those things where execution > theory in my book, at least with fairly balanced weight-distribution, RWD cars. In addition to the Twins, BMW's M cars are a good example, and to a lesser degree, Porsche.

In a perfect world, I'd still go with a lightweight double-wishbone front setup though, so it's good to hear Kia built it into this car. I'd love to hear what their expected price point would be for this, as it sounds like the chassis would need to be designed from scratch, with virtually no overlap with any of their existing models in production.
