I have 17x9 on my car, I had never considered this until I had a flat recently, it was on the front passenger side. I had to drive about 20 miles at about 50mph on the spare tire to get home.

You should be fine as long as you drive slowly and safely, remember that the spare tire is for emergencies, don't wait to get your tire fixed.

I also agree that if you have a flat on your rear tires you should switch one of your front wheels to the back and put the spare tire in the front.
