His analogy is stupid because it's exactly backwards. Horses are self-driving. A car that can drive itself is more like a horse than one that can't.
As long as my self driving car doesn't take off on it's own if there is a strange noise or flash of light.
Oh wait...

Edit: LOL I took too long and Rampage beat me too the punch line.

My experience has been that executives are pretty much like the rest of the population. Some of them are supremely competent or even visionary. Some of them are absolute morons. Most are on the spectrum in between, just like the rest of us.

From what I've seen, the big factors in success seem to be competence in and knowledge of one's field, business acumen, psychology/social skills, work ethic and luck. I would put luck at 60% to 70%. Not just the luck of being in the right place at the right time during one's career, but the luck of being born into the right circumstances and all the luck that comes after that. The rest of it is training to be able to take advantage of that luck when it presents itself and having the work ethic to do what needs to be done.

Complete assholes can be lucky and have enough of the rest to be successful too.
All accurate. My position puts me with many very high level execs on both a business and social (business social not hanging out) level and many that seem wonderful in a conference room are total asses at the social gather. This of course works the other way around sometimes. The whole thing is that what the well know ones want you to see is what you see and it may have no basis in reality. The same as when people say that a certain actor, politician or any other high profile person is "nice" or a "jerk" without ever meeting them.

I like how you say born into the right circumstance/luck........

Nice way of saying born high middle class at the very least. I have seen this. Trust fund babies running companies into the ground or stringing them along as if they haven't read Business 101.

But I digress, lets get this thread back on track. I believe they will be putting a variant of the new FA24T in the car.

Not trying to impress anybody. Was relevant to the comments made earlier and the fact that people judge a whole company and their product by the CEO.

Don't you have a back in the day story about when you served with George Washington or something?

I see it as a real big problem when people like Musk think that computer are smarter than people in all circumstances, which leads them designing systems that override people's decisions. The 737 Max 8 being case in point. Computer don't see everything that is happening, they only act in the way they are programmed and nobody can foresee exactly all the variables. That is immense benefit to automate repetitive tasks but why is quest to dehumanize being celebrated?

It is an unfortunate state where well done self driving cars would actually be far, far safer for the majority of the driving public than human control is. It will let them do their texting, eat their lunch, read their books, play their violins, pet their dogs, change their cloths and do the other weird and wonderful things that so many feel is part of driving. People making decisions is a great idea if they are paying even the slightest attention to what is going on around them. Unfortunately many don't.

"Apparently" Lexus (Toyota) is looking at building the new.........86 or MR2 or Celica.....maybe.

Subaru has hit a financial wall, Toyota wants to end the marriage, something something something hundreds of million of dollars of recalls throughout the Subaru range.

Something something something must meet stricter euro 6 emmisions to be a viable global product.

Time will tell.

This is incorrect, unless he verbally said this, he doesn't think this way. Anyone with any background in development will tell you it's not that computers are smarter than people (computers are quite dumb in fact), it's that the USERS are dumb. How many times have you gotten an error on your computer, but not read the error message.

I believe what would be correct here would be that Musk and his team think the USERS are dumb, and that they, as the almighty smart intelligent and witty developers/engineers they are, need to hand hold the stupid USERS who can't read an error message telling them they require special characters in their pa$$word to connect to LTE 6G in their brand new Tesla model YY.

So it looks like the TNGA platform maybe happening after all.
Now this leads to the million dollar question? Which engine will go in this new 86?

IF the TNGA platform is happening and IF Lexus IS building this 86 for us then the engine choices will be better for us. Meaning it will be a Toyota !

Some Japanese brochure leak a while back claimed a 1.6L turbo with 250 ps would go into some corolla GTi. Who knows ? Just speculating here.

While waiting for all this, let’s enjoy what we have now.
