I do agree though, that good aftermarket catback and sountube-delete will result in much better and more pleasant sound, but it costs .. slightly more.

Rip out all the sound dampening on the firewall. It sounds much better!

Still stupid.

You mention Laguna Seca. Laguna Seca was a super loud race track built in 1957 in the middle of nowhere. Decades later, uber rich people build mansions next to the race track, and then are shocked that they actually have races there with loud race cars and motorcycles. Money and power won. The track lost. It was and is wrong. It severely limits what events can be held there. Track has lost money since.

Now having electric cars buzz when in parking lots is very good for pedestrian safety. Totally different.

There's a diaphragm inside that tuna can looking bit at the top left of the picture.
That keeps engine and cabin air segregated. It's so racey-est.

There was a recent ( within last 5 years?) Renault model that one could choose the engine noise coming out of the speakers. One of the options was the sound of an F1 car. Yes, one could listen to 12,000 rpm while driving your 4 cylinder road car doing 6500 rmp. *sigh*

Luna Park in Sydney is an amusement park I went to a few times as a young child. It was a place of magic. Every time I see it from across Sydney Harbour I get all nostalgic. Developers started putting apartments around the Park and same phenomena happened. "Oh, we've just bought a home next to a roller coaster and we don't like the noise." The local council closed the park, re-opened the park with restricted opening hours, closed the park, re-opened.

Then don't get me started on the f*cking idiots who complain that the planes flying overhead are disturbing them because they've bought a dwelling under a flight path to/from the local airport.
