I've had my BRZ since Oct. and I have had absolutely no problems with it. It does have this weird vibration noise coming from the speaker but from what I read it is a loose cable that is an easy fix.
I drove a Subaru Legacy from 2003 to just recently. I had no problems with it mechanically other than regular maintenance. I put almost 200k miles on it before I traded it in and was outside during very harsh winters with no problem. I miss that car sometimes. My brother currently drives a 2008 Impreza and had a problem with the check engine light going off but it was a simple 10 minute fix (I forget what it was but it was not a big deal). My friend had a WRX from 2005 and still owns it. He had no problems with it either. My other friend owned a Baja turbo and a Legacy GT. Both had no problems but she traded both in to get a bigger truck for work. She regrets it. I think you just got a lemon...it happens, they are churning out 3 different models and trying to keep up with the extremely high demand that unfortunately you got stuck with the bad one out of who knows how many. In any case both cars that you are considering I heard great things about. Good luck with whatever you choose |

Heh, I will only add that the 2005 STI was ridiculously expensive for its time.
