Supercharger and blown engine

Seems like all the engine pops are the result of turbos... Anyone blow a motor with a supercharger?

The engine pops that I've seen are the result of bad tunes (factory on the 2013's/aftermarket all years), di seal issues, excessive amounts of heat, and oil starvation...these failures have been on stock to heavily boosted motors...

There are more Turbo than Supercharger kits on this forum, as far as I can tell.

King Tut had a list of known blown engines with the details in one of the FI threads - here it is: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...25&postcount=4

Haha in all honestly there are almost as many non molested FA20 catastrophic failures as there are from forced induction applications..... if not just as many.

Thanks for the input, I'm really torn trying to decide between a supercharger and a turbo. Not much support up here in Canada so research is very key.

Well it should be an easy choice if you know what your requirements and goals are. For me, I wanted linear power, no change to the emissions system, no significant change in underhood temps, and around 300 crank hp. Supercharger it was.

You want big power, potential for even more, and willing to change the emissions and mitigate increased temps, then Turbo would be a better choice.

Long-term reliability? Nobody's had these cars long enough in stock form, let alone FI. Time will tell, but both options have held up well so far.

I'm running catless headers and a stage 2 oft tune now... I want 250- 270hp at the wheels. Unfortunately in Canada we have to have an emissions test every few years. So in like 4 yrs time I'll have to return to stock go do a 10 min emissions test then put all my performance parts back on.

I dunno how a CARB tuned car would work up there, but there are a few different supercharger options that are CARB approved.

Right now I can throw on my Stock headers and flash back to stock... Obviously more work with a turbo or supercharger

You may want to look @ the ESC. It will not make your power goals, but its a nice jump and its very like a bolt on. Can be removed very quickly.

Yeah I just met a guy with a phantom charger... Says he loves it. I'm going to see if I can hitch a ride if I see him at the next meet.
