The dealership where I had mine done has their most senior tech assigned to the task and is doing all of them, or at least that's the story I got. I do know he did at least one car before mine, and is scheduled to do two next week.
Is this true? Do you really get a new 12 month 12,000 warranty? If so, then maybe I'll have it done after all.

One dealership near me said they warranty all service up to a year. Will have to ask if that applies to this recall too.

All OE parts are warrantied for a year even if you install them yourself.

Hey guys, I took my 2013 FR-S manual with 26k miles into my local dealer for the valve spring recall. With the engine out, they have also suggested the following:

-Replace the clutch: $300 parts, $295 labor (2-3 hours?) as they claim it has unusual wear. Here's the picture they sent with it already out? I don't know what "unusual wear" should look like. The disk is $91 on the Toyota site, though they may be replacing other things too (plus markup of course)?

-Replace spark plugs $100 parts, $130 labor (1 hour?) - seems like typical dealer markup on the plugs, and an hour of labor is probably excessive, but also not that much a concern. I know these aren't supposed to be replaced until 60k miles, but it's also six years old at this point.

-Clean mass air flow meter of deposits - $91 - this seems like BS

-Induction service to clean fuel delivery system - $218 - this really seems like BS

-Four wheel alignment as he says they had to remove suspension parts which seems like they should have to pay for it themself as part of the recall - $130

Does this make sense?

Man there is so much fishy about what they are telling you.

1: Suspension doesn't come apart on this job
2: If the suspension was coming off the letter you got in the mail would tell you that and also mention that you will be getting a free alignment. This is how it was on my Sequoia when it had a recall. I was excited because it was in desperate need of an alignment at the time.
3: Clutch isn't removed on this job so how did they get that picture? Are they really wasting a bunch of time pulling your PP off just to get a look at your clutch? No, they are sending you a pic from someone else's car.
4: They want $130 in labor to screw in new plugs rather than screw in old plugs?

I would pass on everything they recommended and find a new dealer.

Charging you labor to do spark plugs is a rip off since they are removing them to do the warranty. The only extra labor should be removing the new part from the box. It might be an extra hour of labor to do the clutch at most. I'd say they're trying to screw you 100%.

Agree with the others that they shouldn't need to take off the pressure plate for this job, but a friend of mine had a new trans installed under warranty and they did the same thing (pulled the clutch). Think they make the gamble that most people will opt to replace the parts vs. not so their removal labor will be reimbursed. I'd negotiate with them - there is no additional labor vs. them just putting the old parts back in - they have removed everything already - offer to pay for parts only.

I'd have them put in a new throw out bearing - it's cheap and they tend to fail. I had to replace mine - and did the clutch disk and pressure plate while I was in there.

My disk looked similar to that one - there were a few rivet holes that had some clutch material that had packed in - I think that's normal. Yours (or that pic) looks like it is not very worn. Probably good for at least 2x the mileage you have now. Are the springs loose at a all in the disk? Mine were a bit so I replaced it.

My pressure plate fingers were worn a fair amount - so replaced it as well. Friction surface looked OK.

I had the recall fix done last week on my 2013 manual FRS. They replaced my spark plugs with no charge for labor - only charged for parts.

On the repair, at the dealership where I had it done, yes. Your warranty may vary as this dealership does that on all repairs. I did verify it was applicable though..

The shop that did mine only charged me for the spark plugs, no labor.

Have other BRZ owners received a notice yet? (all the posts seem to be from the 86 guys)

Got my letter in the mail today. I expected it to come, though. Have to stop by the dealership in the next few weeks to see how they're going to deal with my Edelbrock supercharger. Being in CA puts us in a bind as I heard that you can't renew your registration unless this recall is addressed. I might have bought myself a bit of time by renewing this year's registration online a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully I'll get my tag for 2020 and have time to wait for others to get the recall done before I bring mine in. I don't want to be the guinea pig, especially with FA.

According to the procedure breakdown, they do some suspension disconnections for automatics, which makes this extra concerning because presumably the OP has a manual.

Drats. Got my letter today. Warranty like this would be a plus but, after reviewing what all is involved...I don't know. Have to do a coin flip to decide which coin flip to do.
1. Fix it/don't fix it.
2. Keep it/sell it.
