Exiges are super ugly to me, and while I sort of like the Evora it sits on the threshold of being overstated. It's also a >3000lb car, and I already find the 86 too heavy to my tastes (my previous car despite being an older SUV wasn't that much heavier, by only by ~200lbs) so I crave lighter weight, even more agile vehicles.

Plus I love how A110s look, the new ones share a remarkably similar profile to the 86 and are as light as a Miata while having a fair bit more power, all for half the price of an exige/evora.

In the meantime, my Datsun Z often gets better reactions around LA than most exotics (and for some reason, so many people think it's a Porsche.)

Absolutely. Now of course "could" would mean "able to buy one without affecting my financial future", so I'd need to be absolutely loaded to be able to justify spending that much on a car... I'm a pocket protector dork who's too risk averse to lay out for expensive things.

997 GT3RS 4.0 counts as an exotic right? I love a good Lambo as much as the next guy, but nice Porsches are the only modern cars that I would describe as "so beautiful it hurts". You feel it in your chest.

agree with @yurikaze though, the 718 Spyder is gorgeous and dreamworthy. Then again, so is that Datsun

Keep in mind I haven't driven either of these, so I lack first hand experience... But the 997 feels so much smaller and more svelt in person, so I imagine that translates into perceived size when driving it. Looks wise I think the 997 (and 987) front end is the best of the modern cars, but I imagine it drives much smaller than the 991 or especially 992. Combined with the fact that it's still got the hydraulic power steering, and I think it would make a better driver's car. If you care about value, they made far less of them and I think they're going to retain value moreso than the later GT3s (50% of all 991.2s are GT cars supposedly)

That said, you don't get that 9k redline, "only" 8400, lol…

The slant nose is also absolutely gorgeous in the most retro of ways. I'm a sucker for the headlight/fender humps though. Seriously a contender though.

Interesting perspective. To my eyes, they look very similar in size and styling (front ends look exactly the same to my eyes, and I actually like the sharper, skinny taillights on the 991 more, more reminiscent of the old-school 911 rectangular lights), and IIRC the 991 generation has a lighter chassis despite the increased wheelbase. Since the new cars are all 4.0L, I feel like the uniqueness of the 997 4.0 has been diluted. If it were my money, I don't think I could justify paying more for the older car when the newer one is just better and looks more or less the same (sort of the opposite with McLarens, where the newer car is much more money than the depreciated old one that has basically the exact same engine and styling).

The reviews say the 991.2 and 992 steering has been de-numbed, and with 4 wheel steer I feel like "nimbleness" shouldn't be a problem. If their claims are true, I also really like how the hardened valve seats don't require any valve adjustments for the life of the engine. Electrohydraulic steering is a fun gimmick especially with the whining noise but a good electric assist system is more reliable, lighter and doesn't intrude into the frunk.

Valid points! honestly I'm sure they're all pretty close. They're all such amazing cars... Maybe someday I'll be able to decide for myself, hahah. I'm gonna be more in that "Used 987.2 S" price bracket next time around though, at best, lol. Pretty sure I'll be deciding between a new gen 2 BRZ, a used M235i, or a heavily used Cayman.

That said, last car show I was at there was a guy with a '74 Carrera that he hotrodded into an RSR clone. Full race interior, 4.0L aircooled engine, weighed around 2150lbs. Now THAT is a Porsche... and probably costs as much as the GT3s we're discussing, if not more lol.
