On board data

Are there and units that not only can play music and all that but also display onboard information about the car like oil temps, water temps, fault codes, that kind of stuff? Radios and head units are probably what I know least about with these things so I don't even know where to begin

Yes, there are a couple of directions to go to accomplish this. You can buy an Android based head unit and use a dongle that attaches to the OBD2 port in the car to beam information to the head unit.
You can also buy a head unit that is idatalink Maestro RR compatible (check their website for model compatibility info) and use a harness that connects between the OBD2 port and the back of the head unit. This option is what I chose to do with a Pioneer AVH-2330NEX and Maestro RR combo and I am able to read various engine parameters such as oil and coolant temps, EGTs, etc. as well as TPMS data including tire pressure and temperature.

Thanks for the lead about the Maestro unit, that looks awesome!

Does it read oil pressure, oil temp, and trans temp?

Its limited to what the ECU has inputs for.

Definitely won't do oil pressure, the cars don't have oil pressure sensors stock. Not sure about a trans temp sensor, but I wouldn't bet on it. Oil temp should be easily handled by it.

Thanks for the responses guys.

Is there a list of what live data is readable via OBD2 on these cars somewhere? I started my search for that and ended up on this thread.
