Galneryus and Sex Machineguns probably rank #1 for me.

Galneryus has a genius on guitar and the keyboard!

while none of these are from Japan I feel like they have similar style to what was discussed already. So here are a few bands that I like to keep the discussion going !

I like Dragonforce (British) and Gamma ray (German) which have a similar style of power/speed metal.
Both their latest album are great IMO, Maximum Overload and Empire of the Undead respectively.

While not as exactly the same style but not that far of, I love Epica (Netherlands), they have a symphonic metal style. Their best album is IMO Design Your Universe.
Sirenia (Norway) is similar too.

Aeryon (Netherlands) makes for a great Metal/rock Opera. (or anything that has Arjen Anthony Lucassen involved) Ayreon - Universal Migrator Part 2 - Flight Of The Migrator is my favorite.

The band I like the most is probably Dream Theater (USA) they aren't really close to the rest with a progressive metal style. Train of Tought is an awesome album, I also really like their Deep Purple live cover of Made in Japan. John Petrucci (guitar) and James Labrie (vocal) are really talented and both have solo album too.

Cradle of Filth (British) their music style is hard to describe so I'll use this quote from Wikipedia : "The band's musical style evolved from black metal to a cleaner and more "produced" amalgam of gothic metal, symphonic black metal and other extreme metal styles."
I've seen them twice live in Montreal and they are breathtaking!

I could name a lot more but I'll stop for now.

I remember the first Japanese metal band I saw, but don't recall their name. They were the 3rd opener at a festival and they weren't bad. The only reason I remember them was solely on their performance. After performing a few songs the lead singer drops to his knees and show everyone the scars on his inner forearms. Takes out a knife and begins to slice himself a couple times.
If any of you know who I am talking about, pleas let me know. They weren't bad, but bat shit crazy though.

In my drunken, nostalgic romp I stumbled (literally) across old videos I have never once thought to watch before. In the process I found one of my top 10 favorite songs by one of my favorite artists and now my interest in the visual kei stuff makes sense to me.

I'm more into a single unique aspect of Japanese music...Vocaloid, and it has a heavy side:

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQxP8kQMCwU"]ã€Megurine Luka】- ReplicA ã€Muryoku-P】 - YouTube[/ame]

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QoGJw-YZwbc"]Hatsune Miku - Welcome to The Love Hospital (CD-R ver.) - YouTube[/ame]

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Qd3CanD6hM"]ã€Hatsune Miku Append】- CR Peculiar World View (ALGORITHM Version) ã€Utsu-P】 - YouTube[/ame]

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcnwPk4mvrU"]ã€ã‚¯ã‚°ãƒ„】 "Marionette" Yoshihi/Hagane Miku Sub Eng/Esp Romaji HD - YouTube[/ame]

And Kikuo, though absolutely not metal or really typical, just kills it musically...genious compositions, but steps off the deep end and is a little too disturbed though, must have some severe mental issues based off what the music is actually about...

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eC4XuTe7Hyc"][Official HQ]Kikuo - 物をã±ã‚‰ã±ã‚‰å£Šã™ "Mono wo parapara kowasu" - YouTube[/ame]

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGInLtu0j6Y"]Kikuo - MAWARU - YouTube[/ame]

And I'm quite liking the new Cevio (like a Vocaloid...) ONE and these songs in particular...

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ObLVSluRW0"]ã€ONE】lost pulsationã€Original Song】 - YouTube[/ame]

I love a Japanese metal band called Vow Wow from the 80's...check out Hurricane and wait for the guitar solo. They were described as Turbo Rock. Hope I won't get banned for using the 't' word

I'l just shotgun out random stuff, but most of what you have been looking at is, I believe "visual kei" stuff. I might be balling them all up, I know music snobs get pissy when you cross razor thin genre lines, but cute dude in makeup like Ziggy stardust to me is visual kei.

I listen to all sorts of stuff in addition to that.

Maximum the Hormone
They make me want to break stuff and this old headbangers neck starts to crack and I stomp around roaring. Might not be for you, but give it a spin.

I overlooked them for years to my dismay. I caught them in a little hole in the wall club and they blew the place apart! I'm a guy from the 80's and this speaks to me on a genetic level.

Kuroyume, going in a whole different direction.

OHHHH not so good that time there Mad! Zero for 7 on that bunch. Too thrash, pop or 80s like for me.

There seems to be a very tight range that I like.

Music is expression, there is no one correct answer for all. I like Alan Jackson too.

While I search for some more stuff, watch this 10 year old kid rage.

Not all little girls in Japan want to join AKB48. Some want to rock. She's like 14 now and probably makes Steve Vai want to kill himself. She's also a licensed pilot.
