Would I own another RX-7, hell yes, if I can find the right car. It is old but it is still very capable and has a charm that cannot be found in modern cars. Would I trade my BRZ for it? Not really. I can enjoy my BRZ daily without worrying about things breaking left and right. Although LSX swap solves most of engine reliability problems, still the overall quality is just not there, especially for interior... everything just breaks if you just stare at them too long.

In an ideal world, I would love to have both BRZ and FD, along with a big comfy DD car for family. Wait... that means I just have to find the right RX-7 now.
Nailed it.

If I had the choice now to buy a stock 0km RX7 vs a stock 0km FRS, it'd be no contest for the RX7. It's not a fair comparison though as that thing is on a different tier than the twins.

If such a choice existed the FD would be considerably more expensive, even not adjusting for inflation. Modern equivalent IMO would be the Cayman (minus crappy reliability).

I often wonder if the FD RX7 was N/A instead of F/I would it had been so popular? Most 90's Japanese sports cars had to have it to be popular except the NSX. The same thing I say about the Mark IV Supra even though I know N/A existed. It seems like the Twins would need F/I to reach a new level of popularity in most peoples eyes it seems. I hear every journalist say it's a Turbo away from perfection.

I kind of agree. If we had a reliable (not that the aftermarket isn't), factory turbo for 30-32k (370z territory), that put out a 10:1 power:weight ratio, the car would have probably the best attributes of any car under 60-70k dollars. It would essentially be a budget cayman s at that price in my mind. You'd have the excellent handling, relative affordability, good looks, practicality, and power all in one.

I had a chance to drive an FD recently and within 20 feet of driving, I could tell it felt like a scalpel.

I dont know exactly what it is but the way it communicated was telepathic.

Front-mid engine, great weight distribution, great double wishbone suspension design.

Just like the S2K.

Different from the S2 in terms of feel.

Raced an S for 3 years......

S2 is more like a Formula Ford

FD more like a shifter.

Really looking forward to driving my 5.8 litre FD again (long story) & comparing it to my GT 86.

I has a Carbon fibre bonnet for on the street, the scoop would get me into way to much trouble :-)

I really miss the power, carbys are so instant :-)

Handling wise I know the GT is miles better, but I deleted the ABS & Power steering in the FD, might put it back in & increase the castor again to make it more nimble.

With an alloy headed, cast block, stroked, Holden V8 & T56 it weighs less than stock with 680 kgs on the front & rear wheels with me in it & 1/2-3/4 tank fuel, 11.6 1/4s with slicks, just can't get it off the line & it has decent gas mileage on a trip, moon beams better than a rotor with the same performance, without even getting into reliability.

Tried fitting in an FD again... no such luck. I'd have to bolt the seat directly to the floor. Curse my parents for making me eat my vegetables!! I'm only 6' 2", too

I've driven the FRS many times (both boosted and NA) and can say that it is a great car. Wanted to buy one (that's why I'm on here) but never did come around to it. I also own an FD and the rotary was great. I had no issues with it. I wanted to ditch the sequential TT setup because I didn't like the transition from the primary to secondary turbo. It was either go single turbo or LS Swap. A good single turbo setup would cost a little less than the LS swap so I decided to go with the LS Swap. Car is a blast to drive. I still browse the classified here to see if any good deals pop up on an FRS/BRZ, maybe one day I'll end up getting one and swapping that too lol!
