Smile wheel+tire debate

Quick question on the tire debate, wondering if you could possibly help me out here
I'm planning on getting Eibach Sportline springs (-1.4" drop) along with Rota Grids or Varrstoen ES2 18x8.5 front, 18x9.5 back. By the way what do you think between the 2 wheels which is better?
And my main question is about the tires for that staggered setup, front 225/40 or 235/35 and back 245/35 or 255/35, what are the advantages and disadvantages of each and which is better? And will I have any rubbing issues with this setup?
Thanks in advance. Much appreciated!!

285's though, are you turbo? Those are wide tires you're looking at.
No it's currently not. Down the track I'll be looking at power, but for now im starting with the platform for handling (wheels, suspension, brakes, bracing).
I was looking at 285s because that's what I was told for the 18x9.5 rear.

And to slick, I was referring to different brands. I have no issue with different sizing, as I purposely bought staggered. But it's just near impossible to find good, non-semi-slick tyres that make both sizes.

Whatever you do, don't mix brands. Find one you can fit on front and rear (why I love to run square setups). When you start mixing there are too many variables down to rubber compound that reacts differently to temp changes, tread patterns, and so on...

Gone are the days my dad would run knobby winters tires on the rear of his 60's Pontiac Parisienne with all-seasons up front.

As for sizes, I would go for 245/35 up front and 255/35 in the rear. 265 would be larger still and without boost your acceleration will be affected by the taller gearing (not including the additional weight of the larger rubber).

IMO, 285 is overkill unless you're looking at stance/looks (which is okay) or need the extra traction from power adders.

I agree. A 285 will make ur car look faster but will almost definitely make it slower. Stock power, im running a 18x9.5 235 square setup w a gforce tire and on the street (i push my car on the street sometimes on windy roads) i definitely dont need any more traction. Obviously tire choice has just as much to do with that as tire size, just my $0.02

Too much tire and/or wheel is the most common modification error on 86.

Keep wheel weight and tire weight down. Compare specs when shopping for tires. Cross reference with the Tire Rack and tire manufacturers.

Thanks guys.
I want the looks, but I'd prefer the performance more.
That's why my mod list is starting with handling, then a bit of looks, then power when my warranty is out.
Those tyre sizes make it a lot easier...toyo, Michelin, Pirelli, Bridgestone, and heaps more do both...it seemed that 285 was rare as.

No problems, not too different from the factory setup so just choose good tires an you'll see a nice improvement.

Hey guys!

I need your help regarding my new staggered setup:

Wheels/Tyres
Rays Gram Lights 57Xtremes
18x8.5 +33 / 225/40/18 (F)
18x9.5 +40 / 255/35/18 (R)

Suspension
Eibach Pro Kit (1" drop)

At the moment, there is some poke going on. It could also do with a little more drop (about half an inch) so I've bought a set of Eibach Sportlines to do the trick.

My question is, do you think the extra 0.5" drop would sort out the poke? Or would you recommend I get camber bolts?

Thanks in advance

That's difficult to answer without hard data..

Did you align after pro kit?
How much poke in mm?
How much camber currently?

What are your goals?

If I'm forced to guess, no, you will not fix the poke with your new spring selection.
