I was gonna say - no "winter beater" needed here. If anything, a summer beater (with amazing A/C) is needed here.

EDIT: Until a month ago, my old snow tires were still sitting in my garage. Glad I don't have to look at them / get reminded of snow anymore!

Having lived in Michigan 16 years of my life, there's not much better than an AWD suby in the winter !

Good choice @jasper!

Whaaaat? How is that sexist? Guys are blonde too.. To be fair I was giggling and thinking of you when I chose that example.. And knowing @thesleeper wasnt blonde I thought she might like it as well.. Its not surprising if it is sexist on here sometimes, the vast majority of us are young men in our sexual prime..:happy0180: It just comes up(pun intended.)

So uh, at the risk of taking this discussion off topic by actually talking about cars, I changed my transmission fluid this weekend.

I went from stock -> Redline MT-90 at 900 miles and this past weekend changed to Motul Gear 300.

I've noticed that shifting with the Motul feels smoother than the Redline (especially 3rd gear for me). It's not totally free of resistance, but it feels more like I think a transmission should. So if anyone is thinking about doing a fluid change, I would recommend the Motul over the Redline (they both feel better than stock though).

P.S. Motul is also great because the awesome bottle design makes it very easy to put the new fluid in. No pumping required!

I had bought some from Amazon for the diff, but I was a liter short for a transmission fluid change, so I followed Keith's advice and got it from Vivid.

It seems to be pretty much the same price everywhere, around $22/liter. My transmission ended up taking around 2.4 liters (owners' manual says 2.2l). From past experience the diff is pretty much in line with the stated 1.2l, so if the same fluid is used in both, only 4 liters are needed.

Sooo, what's wrong with the stock fluid? Is "feel" the only issue here or are there premature failures of parts that can be linked back to the stock fluid?

Does anyone else's 4th gear grind?

It grinds for me every time i down shift practically and when im above 4k and try to put it into 4th gear fast. The only time it doesnt grind is if i really hold in the clutch a long time and just let it slide in super slow.

That is not right..... could be a clutch engagement issue though. As in needs adjustment, it doesn't do it when your shifting from 3rd to 4th just 5th to 4th?

Did you tear up the 4th gear synchro not understanding that the transmissions in these cars were "designed clunky?"

Not to bash, but this is pretty easy to do if you aren't careful while driving aggressively...
