Which is the best FI option?

If it was me I'd go with a Vortech supercharger kit. I think you could get a pretty reliable 300 whp street set-up.

Turbocharging is the more efficient FI option, and also provides the biggest gains for our cars. Given the fact that we have a very high compression ratio (and especially with a twin scroll turbo like the JDL kit), the difference in throttle response is rather insigificant. The parastic lossses with a supercharger seems far more significant to me. I also like the sound of a turbo (w/ BOV) better than the supercharger whine, but that's just me.
However, to each his own.

Whatever you do, please do your research. There is a certain vendor on here that will take your money and have you waiting months for your kit

If it were me I'd do an engine swap LS6? Then sell your OEM engine, tranny, exhaust etc etc and it won't cost much more (ok it will still cost moar) i think in a few years this will be a popular option.

Turbo all the way.
I'd keep it around 260-280whp on the stock motor with a small water/meth kit for safety. No e85 where I am so 94 octane is the best I can tune for.

It's still going to be a while before I go FI but the past few days I've been doing small amounts of research. For ME, I think a SC is better. From what I've read, Turbos are harder to install, need more maintenance, harder to tune, will need additional parts, aren't as responsive, and could blow your engine if you don't constantly maintain it.
Superchargers seem pretty straightforward. Although the power you get isn't going to match that of a turbo, and the price is more expensive for a SC...you may actually end up saving in the long run. Installation will be cheaper. Immediate response vs turbo lag. Reliability. You don't need any kind of special maintenance to your car with a SC. Just regular scheduled maintenance is good enough. For my car being a daily driver, I don't plan on upgrading anything after installing a SC. If you have big plans for your car and you're going to keep adding whatever you can to get more HP then go with a turbo. If you want something that's more reliable, has a faster response, but at the cost of a higher price and not getting as much HP as you would with a turbo...then I'd go for SC. I don't street race, drag race, track, or really even drive aggressive. For ME, I would just like the car to perform how I imagine it should in my head. When I put the pedal down I want to feel the torque. I don't care about beating any cars on the hwy or whatever. It's my car and I want it to perform for my taste, not everyone else's. That's why this question is really up to the driver. What do YOU want? Figure that out first and then you'll have a starting point. Just asking and not explaining what you're looking to do with your car is not going to find you a good answer. |
