LOL. Just LOL. Make a list of pros and cons. Run it by people you respect. That should help.

Sorry to hear about your sister passing.

I'd suggest you not get a face tattoo.

Lets see this kid in his thirties.

Truthfully, to me, he looks like a spoilt brat who will most likey die of a drug overdose or get killed in a street fight.

Face hand and neck tattoos are a no go.

I have tattos, as do most of my family, but, when Im in a suit no one would know.

Face hand and neck tattoos will make people think you are criminal filth, a drug addict and a gang member.

You can be the nicest person in the world, but, people will think you are criminal filth, a drug addict and a gang member.

This isn't about a socially accepted tattoo in a culture where they are about status/family/tradition (Polynesia, South America), this is about what the average Joe and Jenny think, and your ability to support yourself and your family.

Location - What may be perfectly acceptable in one place may mean living on the street in another. I doubt it would even be noticed in East LA but not going to go over well in Salt Lake City. Keep in mind that where you live now may not be where you spend the rest of your life.

Type of electrician - You didn't say what type you are. If industrial or construction no big deal. If contractor or home repair huge deal. You don't want the little old ladies saying "don't send the scary guy with the tattoo on his face". If you ever wanted to start your own business (lots of felons do) it would be very restrictive.

Attitude - Many people that get face tattoos have a "fuck the system I do what I want" attitude. There are plenty that don't as well but that is not the message it sends. One of the employment issues that you would face (no pun intended) isn't the tat it self but the stereotype it creates. Many people with face tattoos blame the tat for not getting work when in reality it is just their "screw you" attitude. The very fact you are asking the question shows you probably don't have that attitude but try to convince some HR person during an interview that you don't.

People that hire - Although the day is not far away when there will be a radical change at this point many of the people that would be doing the hiring are Baby Boomers. As such the majority hate tattoos of any type much less on the face. Sure it isn't fair but that is just the way it is. I grew up around bikers and then went into the Army so I am one of the rarer baby boomers that couldn't care less about tattoos but that is not the norm with my generation.

My so-in-law's brother was in a death metal band and figured it would be his career so he had his whole neck and much of his face done. When real life set in and he figured out that garage death metal bands don't make a living he had to go find a real job. It was difficult. He is a smart and ambitious guy but is stuck doing labour work. He expresses regret all the time.

But yeah I do commercial electrical work. I’ve been wiring Uhauls. I get it gives a bad look to certain people but I like when people hate on me and stare. The only thing that’s holding me back is getting into a position where I can pursue more money and it holding me back. I already have tattoos all over my arms and fingers and hands idk. Everyone else keeps telling me to tattoo my entire body before going to my face and neck. So idk. But I appreciate all the opinions. It helped me make an informed decision to probably wait on it.

I can guarantee you, fair or unfair, it will do that, particularly depending on what it is you have done.

It applies to everything, not just tatoos. I have a son (hipster, saxophone playing jazz musician with a duck dynasty beard and long full hair that I am very envious of) that has issues getting a part time job just because of his beard and his hair. He dresses nicer than I do.

He probably wouldn't have a problem getting a job as an electrician if he had the skills, but he's not going to get a "make ends meet" job pretty much anywhere outside a hipster hangout of some sort.

That said, I don't care about ink myself or where it is.
I agree with this. I don't really care what people do but I don't see a point in limiting your future career options in this way. Personally I'd always suggest no neck or face tats. In most locales, body art isn't a protected class and it certainly isn't at a federal level.

What happens if you decide to start a business yourself later and now you have to go out and sell your services/company to customers? I'd say at least 50% of the people will immediately disqualify you due to the face tat. Would you really want to immediately eliminate 50% of your customer base?

One other thing to think about is what it will look like in 30-40 years. Here in FL there are a lot of older guys that look like they have not cleaned the grease of there arms.
