This oil cooler subject is also subjective to how high the car owner is comfortable with on his/her oil temp. Some people don't mind their oil going to 240-250 with high quality oil, some want their temps to stay at 220. Personally, I'm seeing temps around 240-250 doing multiple pulls to log. Track time has to wait due to personal reasons, so I'm ok with the Laminova cooler for now.

I still maintain that any modern synthetic oil should be good to over 280 deg. I know guys that are fine with running 300 deg oil temps on track.

Any others care to chime in on where they are comfortable with their oil temps on track?

If my gauge said 240, I'd be ok with it. If it said 260, I'd start backing off.

If you are seeing that during non-track logging, you will not last 2-3 hot laps on track.

The problem with a laminova on this car is it relies on the radiator to cool the oil and as MrC has pointed out the radiator does not get much airflow on this car.

With the laminova, as the oil climbs past 240-250, it brings the coolant temps up with it. Most agree that anything above 230F coolant is risking lifting the head.

Even WITH various other oil coolers (Laminova or Perrin Setrab 6-series 13 row), I have had to back off after seeing 265F on track. With the Setrab 9-series 25 row, I can go all day without going over 220F.

I don't know half of what some of the more experienced guys here do about oil temps. That said, I've been driving road courses for 16 years, instructing for several and have spoken with plenty of racers about the subject. I probably have 100+ track days under my belt.
I've tracked Audis, BMWs, a Porsche and now the BRZ regularly. I see temps around 260 all the time, and temps not much lower in other cars. I always use full synthetic oil and have never had an oil-related problem with my engines.
That said, I've never had an oil analysis done, and change the oil every couple track days.
Like I said, I'm no oil expert, but as far as I can tell running good quality fresh oil seems to work just fine for me, even at 260F.
Oh, and I live at 6,000 feet above sea level, so my car doesn't make the same power as most of you guys. Maybe that has a little something to do with it, too.

Yeah, I'm planning on keeping this car a loooong time. And WHEN track time is back on the agenda, I will be addressing that oil cooler.

Agreed. that's common with road racing cars. the day of conventional motor oil are gone synthetics is a must.

This is all excellent info. You guys rock. I can't wait to have my car back and up and running. The install is complete. They are just working on the tune. Some scheduling issues have delayed things a bit but I should have it back on Friday.

Edit: oh and @kanundrum I loved the video.

So the turbo has been up and running since Friday afternoon when @nelsmar tuned it. We did three maps. On E85 (actually e70ish I think) we have the maps set for:
320whp
340whp
360whp/275tq @ ~10psi

(I'll post a pic of the dyno sheets later)

That's on stock injectors and on the "heartbreak" MAHA Dyno. At some point I'll probably see what a Dynojet says. Could be fun I suppose.

I also have the FIC 850cc injectors that came with the PTuning Fueling Kit. We decided to go with the stock injectors for now but we'll see.

Interestingly, it was making 380 @ ~10.5psi but that was starting to tax the stock fuel system and was making us both a little nervous about reliability so we decided to turn it down a bit lol. Actually, nelsmar said he could leave it there but I had to sign a waiver. Not sure if he was joking...I suspect not. He thought it could possibly hit 400 in a couple more pulls, but neither of was comfortable with that.

As far as install, I had the kit installed by the professionals at Goodspeed Performance in Scottsdale. They did an amazing job. Matt showed me a few of the very minor tweaks he made--things like routing a couple hoses more efficiently. I'm very glad I had them do it as I wouldn't have considered some of those things.

There were two issues during the install. The oil return plate was machined incorrectly so PTUNING sent another one. It took longer than expected to arrive so that cost me almost a week. The next issue was the oil scavenging pump acted up initially. I'm not really sure what happened there but they got it solved. Those issues turned out to be pretty minor but they're things that I'd have struggled with. Two thumbs up for Goodspeed.

So. Bottom line...

Good Lord this is awesome! The kit is outstanding. It just seems to want to make gobs of power. It feels amazing and has looks and sounds to match. With the JDL UEL header, the car sounds absolutely beastly. The car is completely transformed. It's one glaring weakness was a lack of power/torque and those are now vastly improved.

I can see why this kit costs a little more than some others--because it's effing awesome.

Yes I have a GT3076.

The numbers are SAE corrected. Not sure if others are doing that too, but I assume so. Like on the higher map the car actually put down 321.1 but that's at 99 degrees ambient and such. Give me a few minutes to take a pic of the dyno chart and you guys can chime in.
