There's a huge thread on it in the tabletPC review forums. By luck found that @dwx has the tablet. There are tons of work arounds, but he has one that is simple, clean and allows simultaneously to charge/transfer data.

Here is my setup.

I bought most of this on DX but I think most is available on Amazon now except the micro USB female to USB female.

USB Type A Female To micro-USB Female Adapter - USB Adapters has them for really cheap. It's in HK but shipping was really fast, much faster than DX.

I use a USB to micro USB adapter to plug into the V8P. The Y-cable has a female micro USB so I plug the normal power cable directly into there. The other part of the Y has a male micro USB so I either plug that directly into the device, or I use a male to female USB adapter to plug in other stuff.

+1 !!

I had to see it to believe it, but with an older laptop with 2.0 usb, flashing an EcuTek ROM was taking nearly 4 minutes. With a cheap 2.0 usb hub in between the laptop and EcuTek cable, flash times are now 45 seconds. WOW!

So you upgraded from 2.0 to 2.0 and got an increase in speed... Makes perfect sense......

The only way that can make a difference is that the USB Hub might provide better power.
Is it possible that the cable/dongle/tactrix-thingy you are using can write to the OBD port faster with higher supply voltage?

Like I said, had to see it to believe it! Must be the chipset or hardware compatibility with the hardware in the cable, or EcuTek Drivers.

Nice thread. I always thought that flashing took more than 10 mins until this thread appeared.

I have a Samsung series 9 X900 and it has SSD and I5 CPU. Believe it or not I used to use the USB 3.0 port for flashing. After reading this and realising the norm, I tried to use the other USB 2.0 port and the speed is about 2 mins. So 2.0 is faster than 3.0? Yes in our case but no in theory! But this should be like Bob said, it's the chipset.

Picked up an asus x200ca on sale at best buy for $279. Flashes really fast, but windows 8 still sucks even with a real keyboard. It doesn't seem to know it's on a laptop, and tries to bring up a touch keyboard all the time. Maddening still, but it's more useable than the tablet was.

Agreed, windows 8 sucks... thinks everything is a tablet.

Has anyone ever tried to run a serial monitor for the USB port on the PC while flashing?

If we examined a serial trace file, we might be able to figure out the bottleneck.
I suspect that for the ones experiencing very slow flashing, that you are getting a lot of retries.

i think it's pretty well established that it has something to do with the usb chipset and the drivers for the cable. i'm not very familiar with windows in general, much less how their drivers work, but that seems to be the case given the evidence.

Im actually looking for virtual usb software, we use it at work to have virtual dongles on multiple computers over a network, it would be nice to only require the cable and not the dongle on a device with only a single usb port...

My end goal is to install the dongle/cables/hub out of sight so I just plug in the single usb connection to the tablet. Maybe have the connector hidden in the center console or something.
You ever figure that out how to get the license key virtual?

Have not found any virtual USB software, only USB over IP which isn't a huge help.
