Cool Get Your Subscriptions In, We're Doing a Budget 2JZ Swap!!

After talking to about 30 tire kickers over the past 6 months we have a customer who is actually having us do a 2JZGTE swap into his 2013 FRS. We get calls at least once a week from people who have seen our DRAGFRS build and records and they want to do it to their car, but no one wants to actually spend money to do it, they want it to happen with 5 grand and a JDM motor. We have a customer local to us who upon blowing his stock FA20 with a turbo kit decided to go 2J. This build overall is probably going to take place over the next 2 months. The customer is not in a hurry and we want to make sure we make our part purchases and moves carefully since this is the first budget street setup we have done.
I will not make updates every day or probably every week, but I will keep everyone updated on progress and have a final overall number at the end that can give people real world $$$ figures for what they are in for. I also hope to have a package of parts available that we can do for those that would be interested.

Thanks for reading and following along, stay tuned for updates!

-Brady

JDM 2JZGTE and R154 Manual Transmission

Preparing for the first test fitment ! Preliminary test fit is to check all the clearances, start sorting the mounts, and start picking out turbo manifold.

Update 5/25:

We have started ordering preventative/necessary parts for the engine. JDM engines are usually a little rough and have been sitting in a warehouse or on a boat for who knows how long. Here are the parts we are replacing:

Timing Belt
Water Pump
Water Pump Housing (The JDM water pump assemblies are completely wack)
Spark Plugs
Valve Cover Gaskets
PCV Breather Hoses
Thermostate

And this is only what we have found so far, I'm sure there will be more to come as far as that goes.

We are currently waiting on a couple of these to come but I couldn't resist at least sitting it in the car so to see where it is so far.

Up first in the hack and hammer game is the factory heater hoses and the diagonal cross bar mounts. These definitely have to be removed and the heater hoses need to be as short as possible.

I'll be back with more updates once we get some more parts on the engine and make some more room, hopefully we will get the engine to its final mounting point!

Has 2 months past yet? If not wake me up then! Because this is exactly what I've been waiting for a real world estimate. Not this "Oh its going to be 20k+ " Or " I did it in my garage for 8k". My hopes it will break down what one could expect doing this swap and hopefully no bias is influenced by egos

OOOHHH Can we start guessing how much the build will cost on a budget? I bet on $25k

Have you decided what engine management you'll be using?

Surely if it was a budget swap it'd be non-turbo. They're bloody cheap here down under.
Strap a 2nd hand turbo on the side and it'd go hard.

Guaranteed this will be $15k+ for absolutely no mods provided everything goes right, nothing is broken on the donor motor, with functioning cluster. Also, considering there's an estimation posted by Pure already, you could start there.

I'd expect more, though.

I wouldn't be surprised but given the fact there are motor mounts aND a few other things prefab I bet the biggest issue will be finding a source of reliable harnesses. Getting it to physically fit is easy but the wiring good grief......
