To those who modified their cars...rattles!?

Hi guys,

I just want to run a general consensus on this topic. I have recently started modifying my frs. I put stiffer coilovers in and also white line swaybars (18mm rear, 20mm front with end links). That's all for now and my car has become much stiffer and in my opinion more fun to handle.

However it has come at a cost! I am now hearing much more rattles and funny noises throughout the car. Is this a normal occurrence with cars that have been modified or do all modded cars except mine run super quiet like stock? I ask because I have never been in a real hardcore track car and am just wondering if there is seriously something wrong with my semi modded frs and these rattles I'm hearing. Or can it just be because the car is much more rigid from stock?

Thanks

Any time you stiffen up the suspension you're going to get more rattles from the relatively cheap plastics in the interior. You're also going to have a better chance of clips, and little things coming loose.

it's common. I have the same kind of setup in my Evo and i get a lot of rattling. The Sacrifice is well worth it.

Any car will rattle when you lower it and have stiff suspension. I have KW club sports on my E90 M3 and things do not ride smooth like stock.

Even my 2013 M5 you could slightly start to hear some creaking noises just on lower springs alone.

So no worries just crank up the music or get a nice exhaust

Try this 30s fix. Stopped most of my rattles after I put coilovers in http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42065

Takes 30s so you've really got nothing to lose trying it @FutureFT86

My car is pretty modified at this point and I noticed more rattles popping up. My rear deck and both my doors rattled especially when the audio was on. I decided to redo the audio in my car and while I was at it place in a good amount of hushmat. For $40 in hushmat the car was rattle free. Also the rear window light was rattling a lot so I opened it up and tightened everything down and the rattles went away. Good luck.

Haven't touched a fucking thing other than swapping the stereo for the newer one and it rattles like crazy. Fixed rattled from the trunk with WD-40. Driver's door lock and dash near the stereo have been rattling like crazy though.

I have konis, mach v springs, new lcas and my car rattles like crazy. I just check the suspension every few weeks and that's all I care about haha.

The rattles are fine. I just need to get a sticker for the inside of my car that says "because racecar" so that my wife stops asking me why my car does "x" that she doesn't like.

-Just think of it this way- The more you modify a car with "track" oriented parts, the less "street conveniant" the car becomes. So yes its normal to start hearing more squeeks and rattles as you stiffen and lower the vehicle. But it becomes more FUN

Get some insulation foam [ame="http://www.amazon.com/4026-Double-Sided-Foam-Tape-Squares/dp/B005S4GWA0"]the double backed 3m type[/ame]. You can usually buy a bag of squares. Try to figure out the pressure point on each panel that rattles (you'll probably have to have someone else drive while you investigate), then pull away the panel and put the foam under that point to stop the rattle. I recommend the foam because it's lighter than dampening mat but you could use squares of dynamat/raamat/crazy cowboy/etc.

My headliner rattles, but was worse w/ headers/overpipe/exhaust before the turbo upgrade.

What's funny is if I push on it, whatever's rattling behind it stops--but I get tired of holding it after a while... lol
