Like:
Name change
HP and Torque increases (hey every little bit helps)
Gearing changes (Maybe quicker than that Miata now?)
Wheels
New interior sounds nice

Dislike:
Front bumper Ugh. Looks tacky
Rear bumper Same as front but not as bad
Weight gain Trust me on this one. There will be a weight gain.

Not sure:
Suspension changes. Why do I fear that Toyota is going to make the 86 more civilized and vanilla? Oh, because Toyota!

I love the cruise control stalk where it has always been. Easy to use, intuitive, and you don't accidentally hit it trying to answer the phone, skip track, or change the volume.

I don't mind the body styles on the new 2017 car except that fugly steering wheel!! I hope Subaru make its own design change and both look a little more different.

@D_Thissen, it's less like the new corolla and camry because both of those at least have elements of the front end similar to the lexus architecture.

If Toyota had done that and come out with a refresh along the lines of RC-F/AIMGAIN it would have been heading in a good direction keeping its edge. This new front facia has just gone away from that focus. The front form followed its function in aiding the direction of airflow over the fender as @akyp highlighted.

As far as foglights go either they plan to do what lots of other companies are doing for fogs now which is the high output LED bar or they'll have a kit similar to the OEM one which will have a panel replacement that acts as a housing for a fog light.

No pissing nor moaning from most. It is something new to talk about and people have opinions.

1. Someone's going to continue making a RWD front-engined manual transmission car. Those are getting to be few and far between, and it's the only type of car I like to drive on roads.

2. It's got 5 more hp and a bit more torque.

Dislikes -

1. Hill assist. Another piece of unnecessary technology to break and cause repair bills.
2. Steering wheel audio buttons. See previous comment.
3. Pollution of earlier relatively simple clear design lines and body flow with typical "Make it look like a futuristic insect" styling so prevalent in every other ToyaMazBaruNdai. Ugg.

They're slowly eating away at the stuff that made this car appeal to me in the first place. SIMPLICITY. I want a good engine, a good suspension, a good transmission, good brakes, and a good steering system. THAT'S IT. This car was about as close to the good ol' days as you can get now.

I get a kick out of all the car ads on TV that mention all the cheap-to-implement tech crap (internet access, teenager-proof stereos that won't turn on unless the seatbelt is fastened, bluetooth sandwich maker, blah blah), showing 20-30-somethings fawning over the tech ("this car SPEAKS to me! It touches my soul!"), but never say a darn thing about ...oh... CAR stuff. You know, the stuff that matters? Sigh.

So, yeah, I'm in the "glad I bought an early one" camp, firmly. I don't REALLY care a lot about what it looks like either way; if something is a blast to drive, I can't see the outside when I'm in it anyway. However, the "updated" styling is a definite aesthetic downgrade to me. I'm more bugged about the added "features." Cut it out. Make that stuff optional for those that want it. Heck, build one w/out power windows and air-conditioning for me, please. Make THOSE optional.

As you were..

Barry

Not to nitpick, but if you're THAT busy shifting and driving spiritedly on road or on track, you're likely not going to be fiddling around with the radio.

Also, if that's the case, they'd have to flip the wheel for RHD configurations, which means that the controls would be moved (no big deal) but "backwards" in RHD config, which seems silly.

New styling take

I don't like the new front clip. I have seen better alternatives with the aftermarket in Japan.

Headlights. Good looking with the smoked effect.

Tails. Also good looking.

Rear bumper. I think there can be a much better bumper that makes the car look more like an exotic car than we have now. This car is wide and that look can transfer to the rear way more with a different design. The aftermarket will bring us what we are looking for in this car. This is a revolution for Japanese cars and I doubt any other manufacturer is going to try to compete with a lightweight car like this. Even the new Miata doesn't have the future look of this existing car, and that body roll in the new Miata has to be exorcised or many won't even consider it. Honda could bring us something if it wanted to and so could Nissan. But there is only so much room for the "sports car". These new Crossovers (modern station wagons) with 4WD are the new trend, and it looks like the next new big thing will be exactly what Toyota is bringing us with that new model that makes the Juke look like a beta try at this new trend. I'm just so happy that I have no reason to sell my car. It's a keeper.

The usual dislikes to a new gen is so typical of the previous gen owners. Doesn't matter what kind of car. What I've noticed is that after a bunch of bickering goes on and with time ... people start to sway over and say. "Okay ... maybe it's not that bad." "It's growing on me."

In my experience ... the new gens always look better .... in person.

I will be curious about the msrp. It will go up.

Of course I am biased. See sig below.
